OL John Montelus to Notre Dame. New 5* OL Dorian Johnson to PSU?

  • first off, congrats on the pick up of Montelus to ND. Kid is a good one and now closes out one of the best OL classes in the country.

I was under the impression that ND was the competition for Penn State for Johnson. Does this all but seal him to Penn State now? Don't really care to see ND recruiting so well, but I do want to see the B1G rise up, and with OSU and Michigan doing well recruiting, want to see Penn State do well as well.

  • Johnson was a PSU/Pitt battle. He's not going far from home. We're anxiously awaiting reports on his visit today for the spring game.

well ND fans thought it was a PSU/ND battle.

Pitt really a contender? I guess I just don't see that. They are freaking Pitt man.

But they're the home team. I'd say ND was a clear third. With the 2 recent visits and assuming today went at least reasonably well, PSU should be the leader. We didn't have many on campus today, but we had two big ones in him and RB David Williams.

Home team schmome team, Pitt is a crappy program in a crappy conference.

  • Congrats! Did Meyer strike out on another OL?

They are a pathetic program, but they do tend to have a knack for landing 5* prospects. They'll be in it to the end for WR Foster too.

  • ND backed off on Dorian Johnson once they got McGlinchey's commit for the 4th spot in the class. Then they focused on inside guys with Montelus being their top target. Johnson thought about committing at ND's junior day but held off then McGlinchey took that spot a day later. Dorian Johnson and ND TE coach Scott Booker's cousin so that was the in for ND if they wanted to get back in with Johnson. Not saying we would have beat out PSU or Pitt just providing the back story.

  • So I'm curious...wasn't McGlinchey told there was only one more OL spot? How does he feel about ND bringing in another OL?

And yeah, Pitt was the leader for Dorian Johnson for a while. PSU making headway though, as he's visited twice in 8 days.

He was told ND was done recruiting tackles....Montelus will be playing guard/center

That'd be a waste, IMO. Montelus has great feet and would be best fit as an OT.

So that's what...4 OT's and one interior for ND?

Yes...They just wanted someone that can move inside...Doubt they would just lie to Johnson, His cousin is the lead recruiter

Here is a pic of the 5....

Charlie Weis was more of a nightmare for South Bend area chinese buffet owners imo. If they could stay in business with him there, they should be fine.

Yep, don't agree with the decision but it is was it is. Johnson has been one of my favorite OL in this class. Montelus is very advanced on pass protection, so it will be interesting to see where all these OL play. Bivin and McGlinchey aren't moving inside. I could see Elmer and McGoven moving inside, JMO though. Feels good to be done with OL!cheers

Hopefully he paid attention to Adam Gress and Donovan Smith. He could be one of them in 2 years.
