Apple quietly stops touting the fact that it has a virus-free platform | Technology News Blog - Yahoo! News

From the blog Technology News Blog: It's been one of the key selling points of Macs for years: Computers made by Apple simply don't get viruses, right? Well, unfortunately, recent computer virus outbreaks (yes, that's outbreaks with an ) have proven Macs to be vulnerable, and as a result, … Continue reading →

  • Macs have always been vulnerable. They are actually more so than Windows based PCs. The difference is they only hold ~10% of the market share (even less worldwide) so there is not a real benefit for creating viruses for them. But as they grow in popularity, the occurrences of viruses for Macs will increase quickly.

Yeah if you compare a mac to a pc in terms of ads, popups and virus its a no contest

I hate PC's, they don't suck but compared to mac's they ain't shit

A store bought PC, I agree. You build your own, it is superior.

This has some truth to it. I just don't have the knowhow or time to build my own right now.

Plus, I do love my MacBook Pro.

I wouldn't actually build it myself. I would buy each part separately and then have someone else put it together. My neighbor actually builds them.

Yeah I have a buddy that would probably do it for a small fee, but I just don't really have the need now.

I'm definitely not buying another computer though. After my Mac runs out of juice (hopefully another 5 or 6 years), I'll build one or get my friend to.

Its basically because there are more macs now than before. It was always easier to create viruses that worked for PCs because they hit more computers that way but now that the market is full of mac computers its just as lucrative a market for hackers.

  • Just keep Windows up to date and don't download sketchy executable files and that's 99% of the problems right there.

  • Yeah Macs can get virus but hackers would rather hack your registry format on
Windows than mess with all the crap you have to go through to screw up a Mac.

There's no comparison really, just people who can't afford a Mac complain about them.. There's absolutely no doubt that a Mac computer is an all around better, faster and more reliable computer than most Windows based PC's.

    Anyways, carry on

It really is as simple as this.

Basically put, don't be a moron and you won't get a virus.

Nope, people like you compare a 2,500 mac to a $600 office max PC. Spend equal money on both and the PC trumps it every time.

You forget about the Virus protection you have to pay for and all this other crap that Mac comes with.

You don't think I grew up on a PC? Also, $2500 is a big stretch, they don't all cost THAT much.

I could say that you're just as "ignorant", plus, the money you spend on a Mac will last you 5 years.. If something happens, they fix it for free.. Unlike a PC.

    But yeah, we are ignorant?

Where are your facts? What do you mean PC "trumps" it every time? Prove it instead of saying it.. I have facts for DAYS on why a Mac is better, faster and more reliable.

if you spend 2,500 on both and see what you get. It is not comparison

Once again, you act as if every PC does not come with virus protection, good warranty plans etc..

You are comparing one company (Apple) to several that make PCs. Windows PCs is a open platform that many companies can license and use- some offer good products, others do not. Much like android it is up to the user to do his or her research and spend appropriately.

If you spend equal money on both, you can get more out of a PC- better processors, ram, graphics card, software add ons etc.. but of course since you grew up using your moms PC from Sam's Club it cant be true

Had PC's until I bought a MacBook Pro a couple years ago. Will never buy another shitty PC again.

I use a PC at work, but Mac's are perfect for what I use them for at home. I don't play silly video games and don't have the time, energy, or knowledge to build a PC. Even if I did, I highly doubt I would.
