Good luck man. I'm in journalism, so it's not the most lucrative profession either. Luckily for me, all I need is a word processor or a pen and pad.

That sucks.. The company I work for buys all of the products I need for Web Development.
I don't have to pay for anything and I have all kinds of badass programs because it's people like me who make these companies money.

When I get employed at a company to do design they'll provide at least the Creative Suite software. I do a good bit of freelance work on the side, so I usually go ahead and get it on my own dime anyway, which is okay, 'cause it's a tax write off, so...

What kind web dev do you do, Les? Like website design? SEO? Backend programming? Even more in depth, crazy sh!t?
Just curious. I do a lot of web design, but just the HTML/CSS/PHP/JS/etc. chain and mostly for visual appeal, not so much anything else.

That's cool.
I've done a lot but learning to do Click-Ads and optimizing a website involving editing its content and HTML and associated coding to both increase its relevance to specific keywords and to remove barriers to the indexing activities of search engines is what helped make a lot of money for myself and the different companies

Haha.. Believe it or not, I have a degree in Buisness and a Marketing.. Self taught myself Web Development.
(I have taken week long classes on Web Design to hone my skills, been to Chicago and other places for these classes)

Nice. I'm in a similar boat. All my schooling was in traditional and print design. Web, branding, guerilla, et al has been on my own. In retrospect, I'm really not sure if what I learned in school was all that valuable...

I mean hell, they'll never teach you in class how to turn a Wordpress site into an effective website, and I use that for a lot of clients because of the ease of use for them after I've left the project.
