OT: Concealed Carry gun

  • I prefer the Springfield XDs over Glocks, personally.

  • Glock 23 is what I carry. Its a compact with enough room for my hands. The subcompact 27 is a little too small for me.

I want some recommendations on a new gun. I want it to be my new carry gun. I currently carry a smith and wesson M&P 40. It's the standard size. I love the gun, but I want something a little smaller (compact). But here's the thing, I hate the grips on compact pistols. I don't like my pinkie hanging off.

So do you guys have any recommendations on compact guns with standard size grips?

I believe Springfield makes an XDM 3.8 Compact with an extended magazine in 9mm and .40 cal, maybe .45 ACP as well. Looks like maybe what you are looking for. The 3.8 is barrel length.

That's what I carry.. (Pic below) Very small for a .45, not problem concealing it. Awesome pistol.

For even smaller I'd recommend the Ruger LCP .380 or the .22 mag North American Arms.. (both carry great)

Do you carry the standard size XD or compact?

I carry the XDS. It is a 3.3 but its only 5+1 clip.. The extended clip is 7+1. Obviously for that small of a .45, it's worth it. Awesome gun.

Tried uploading a pic several times but either my phone is crap or this site. Fits in the palm of my hand (don't have big hands). Google it.

    I'll look it up.

I have big hands. And I don't like my pinky hanging off. It bugs the hell out of me. Lol

Springfield Armory XD sub-compact 9MM get it with the extended clip...its the size you are looking for and the extended clip makes sure that your pinky doesn't hang off the side. It is very simple construction easy to clean and super reliable. Accuracy under 25 yards isn't bad either.

If you are going to be a coward POS, be a coward POS with a big gun IMO.

    Fail.

The closest guns to what you're looking for will be the Glock mid-size models (19, 23, 32), the HK USP Compact, and the Sig 239. I would try those three before you make a decision. The mid-sized Glocks have a different feel than the full sized ones.

I would get the M&P compact so you can use the magazines from the full-size model in your carry gun. You can buy an A&G grip sleeve that will fit over the full size mags and make the grip the same size as your full-size, and switch to the smaller magazines when needed. Any polymer-frame compact you try is going to be a lot more snappy than your full-size M&P.

Also, by limiting yourself to a full-size grip, you're really only buying a gun with a 1/2 inch shorter barrel. That's not going to be much different to conceal than your full-size.

    nevermind-- just read it's standard.

Have you looked at the MP 40 compact?

I gotta believe S&W offers a magazine that lengthens the grip.

I own the M&P40 Compact and have the X-Grip extension to use, makes the fullsize magazine compadable with the compact pistol. As big as the mag is for the full size you're better off keeping the fullsize, the only difference would be a slightly shorter barrel on the Compact.

How about the Springfield XDS? Not sure on the grip but I love the XD line.

  • I have a question. I'm trying to figure out the best way to conceal and carry mine. I carry a XDM .40 3.8. Either way I figure I need a jacket and a holster? I just can't figure out how I want to carry it. I would get another gun to carry since it's not small, but it's the gun I feel most comfortable with.

  • I have a big paw and don't necessarily love the way my baby Glock 26 fits in my hand either. But the guy I bought it from is a 25 year LEO and he swears by Glock.

  • Anyone have any experience with a Sig p229? Came across one browsing online and liked the dimensions of it.
