OT: Creation vs. Evolution

  • This is just for discussion. Please keep the conversation civil. With that said....

How do Christians view dinosaurs vs the creation story? (I have been trying to think of a good way to ask the question but this is all I came up with. I think you get the point)

I've asked this question to a preacher a long time ago when I used to go to church. His explanation was logical an it was the 7 days of creation is merely a metaphor and since there wasn't a techincal way to log time, there's no way to know the actual duration of a " day". Made sense to me

  • The word "dinosaur" was not invented until 1841. It could not be used by early translators of the Bible. For example, the King James Version translation was completed in 1611, over 200 years before the word "dinosaur" was created.

    Job 40:15-19

"Behold now behemoth, which I made with thee; he eateth grass as an ox. Lo now, his strength is in his loins, and his force is in the navel of his belly. He moveth his tail like a cedar: the sinews of his stones are wrapped together. His bones are as strong pieces of brass; his bones are like bars of iron. He is chief of the ways of God."

That's interesting. I never knew that.

My uncle is a devout Christian who believes the Earth is far younger than creationists believe. I don't remember exactly how old he and his people believe it is but that's not the point. One day my dad asked him how he can explain all the fossils in the ground that were from millions of years ago. He responded that for all we know, God planted those fossils in the ground himself and it was a way of challenging believers' faiths.

I personally don't believe that. I'm a deist. I'm not one of those who thinks he knows everything though so I find the whole discussion interesting. Nobody truly knows.

but what about the species that only ate meat? Did Adam and Eve come before dinosaurs? Were dinousaurs on the arc with Noah and his family? How could humans survive whatever made the dinoaurs extinct?

Only when Adam and eave were created, did God allow his creations to eat meat.

before that God gave the plants for food.

  • I am a Christian, but I believe in evolution in a sense. Everything evolves over time. Whether it be humans, animals, viruses, etc.

I don't think God "planted fossils in the ground" to instill faith in me. I think he created everything on this earth and that has ever walked the earth. I also think some Christians take the Bible too literally at times, but that's a whole nother' discussion.

My dad was a baptist preacher so I've grown up around the Bible, but still don't have it figured out after 24 years on earth. I will be asking a lot of questions one day.

Dinosaurs were the original inhabitants of earth. We arrived via alien space ship with a piece of their DNA to further the alien race that brought us here.

Mark it down. The truth will be known one day and this is it.

I am asking this with the up most respect and interest...Do you believe Adam and Eve were literal people that were the first 2 humans on Earth?

Wouldn't that mean that dinosaurs are only thousands of years old?

Nope. We evolved from monkeys. There's more proof of evolution than creationism.

No because even the BC/AD timeline is just a metaphor, man. Everything is just a metaphor, except for the handful of things that are to be taken litteraly. We reserve the right to shift those handful of items to metaphor status as science dictates.

  • Here's a nice article about dinosaurs and creationism.

    Dinosaurs and Creationism

Creationist don't believe in evolution, and they insist that the earth is only a few thousand years old. How do dinosaurs fit in their world view?

Sadly, this is true. Some Christians act like the word of the Bible is the only thing that is right and true but then when challenged on things they cannot possibly debate, they revert to saying not everything is meant literally. Can't have it both ways. This is one of my many problems with Christianity.
