OT - Federal Killing of Red Snapper

  • Everyone that enjoys offshore fishing needs to watch this link and pass it along! The government is putting more restrictions on us every year and are killing their habitat and fish while they are doing it! This story needs as much exposure as it can get!

  • Contact your local government administrator or call CCA and continue to report these atrocities. Even if they say the complaint has been noted, call tomorrow and check up on its status. This can and will not stand for.

No need to be childish about this and send them gay porn or anything. They do more for fishing than anyone on the planet. Just make them aware that we are aware of what is going on. Remember, they are the ones who got the net ban in Florida passed in 1995. They can do just about anything if they want to.

    Thanks weedline

We need help on this issue. Please go check this page out and sign the petition. We need to push for state waters to be extended out to 9 nm and to go non-complaint with the government regulations. Texas and Louisiana are already going non-compliant and Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida need to make the same move.

  • I guess i should say that in my old age I have turned into somewhat of an oceanic-hippy of sorts. Basically, I want to take the least amount of resources from the ocean as possible. But in this case (as in the video above) and as Snapper season gets shorter and shorter each and every year, there is a need for a change. These people are doing unnecessary damages to the Snapper population. Everyone I know, everyone, has seen an abundance of Red's flourish in the Northern West Gulf over the past decade or so. Hell, you can't even get your bait down to the bigger fish before the line goes off on a schoolie.

What is happening is, weekend warriors not equipped with the right tools (or just don't know how to do it properly) aren't poking big enough holes in these Reds air bladders before sending them down and thus killing them anyway. So so much for that released fish growing up some day. Most of those fish are now bycatch. That's one thing we can fix. You want to regulate something? Regulate that. Pull over an unsuspecting fisherman on a random Marine Patrol stop and ask them to do that properly. If he does, fine. If not, here's your ticket. Then add another freaking month tot the season.

So who does this hurt? The recreational angler? Sure. It hurts maybe his pride, his table fair, and the feeling of a successful day on the water. But who it really hurts is the grunts in the trenches. The guys trying to get you to spend 1,000's of dollars to charter a trip right off the coast to catch a few Snapper. You can't keep them, though. "COem catch the greatest haul of fish you ever had to throw back". But you can still snap a quick pick. Kinda lame coming back in to all the awaiting tourists on the dock with just three small fish. "But, but, we had a huge one, We did, We just had to let it go". "Sure you did buddy".

Now, for the killing of these sanctuaries, I just don't get it. Are they anymore harmful for the environment than a sunken boat? Are they not now covered with coral and barnacles? Then let them be. If it costs BP a little more to go down and weld these pipes once a year after the wreck is up, so be it. They have already made God knows how many billions off it, now go spend 10,000 grand keeping nature in balance you douche.

You want to save the Red Snapper? Start cutting back on regulations on commercial fishing and those who destroy their nesting and offshore Winter resting grounds. Make recreational anglers aware of where and how deep to poke an air bladder. Eat a dick BP.

snapper fishing must be regulated because we are blowing them up by the thousands.
