They do not follow college football up here like they do in Alabama hun, you can hang that up now.
The only reason I ever joined a cfb message board was because I was that homesick for decent football conversation. No joke. People here drool over the Pats, Sox, Celtics, and the Bruins. Every now and again you'll find someone who really follows college ball but it is not like back home.

On the negative side: 1) January - March 2) High Taxes 3) Don't ask for directions from 'locals'...they will purposely get you lost. It's a game and they take delight in it. 4) You will forever be called an "out-a-stater"...this is not a term of endearment. Other than being born there, not sure how you officially become a Mainer, and they won't tell you either. Just accept it. 5) NO ONE gives 2 shats about college football. Red Sox and Patriots, and that's it. 6) Women...cold winters are not conducive to hotness. BMW is the acronym, you'll figure it out when you go to your first bar.

I had a great time I went there. The environment was so impressive, especially with all of the different trees and habitat. The air felt fresh and it was beautiful. I stayed in Bar Harbor which is about an hour from the University of Maine. Food was great every time, they really care about it over there.
Hope you like lobster and blueberries! Though I'd listen to the guys who have actually lived there lol

Unless it is a major game like LSU Bama last year, don't expect it to be on any television at a bar, especially if there is anything else going on. And I'm talking I had a dude get PISSED at me when I walked into a local bar and asked for a channel change.
There were two televisions, both set on the same thing. Dude was hot that I even dared to ask. The only saving grace was that the bartender and I know each other and I had already called to ask if she would put it on. Another thing, the friends you make here will give you hell for "Sorry, I can't make it right now, the game is on."
First Row Sports streams everything, google and bookmark it now. ;)

Yea I can't wait to get up there. I need to update my entire wardrobe. I'm really open to anything related to Forestry. Whether its working for the government, working for a national park or a private timber company. How long have you live up there. I would love to ask a lot more questions?
Thanks

There are cute girls, but even minimal makeup is rare and you see a large number of girls who got out of the shower, combed the excess water out of their hair, and threw it into a messy bun.
Hoodies are a way of life. I'm not kidding.
The first several times I went into local bars with friends I would have at least one or two people come up and say, "You're not from around here, are you?"
If you go into the cities (I'm closer to Boston than you will be but I almost never go into the city, it's a pain in the a**) you'll see more girls who are better groomed but that's just not a big deal here. I couldn't tell you what the U of Maine will be like, I haven't been up there for any great length of time. I will say I don't wander far in Maine, take that how you wish.
