OT: Guns 'N Roses in Las Vegas

  • Went to see Guns 'N Roses at the Hard Rock in Vegas last Wednesday night and it was literally one of the best shows I've ever been to. Axl was singing like his 1990s self- beer gut and all- and the band actually plays the old tunes better than the band did back in the day.

They had a good set list, played all of the favorites and then stuff like Rocket Queen and Estranged- really was a tight performance from beginning to end.

If they tour in your area and you were/are a GNR fan and even if you are butt hurt about Slash not being a member anymore, I highly recommend checking it out. It was fantastic.

Good info. I'm gonna check dates and see if they're coming to SoCal. The wife and I would be super stoked - the only thing that would make it better for her is if Skid Row opened up for them.biggrin

Edit: The only dates that are listed are for India and Indonesia, oh well.

  • That's interesting. I might actually look it up to see if they tour around here anytime soon.

  • I can believe it. Axl is one of the best front men of all time & I don't care what anyone says. Did he show up on time? Or did you have to wait a couple hours for him to show?

  • Was it the full original lineup?

Show usually starts around seven, they go on stage around nine....

Seriously, they were prompt. Show started at 9 p.m. sharp with the opening act, GNR on around 10:30 I was stunned.

No the only original member is Axl now, but the rest of the band is very good.

Honestly though, Chinese Democracy was just ok imo. Thought it would be so much more, given Axl took almost 20 years to release it. It wasn't awful but it wasn't awesome either.

  • A little off topic, but are the original bandmates of GnR still with Velvet Revolver. You never know with the old frontman from Stone Temple Pilots. He has never been able to stay off heroin for long.

I agree and the concern with a show like this is that they'd play every song of Chinese Democracy and ignore the old tunes.

Didn't happen. They played some here and there, but the rest were classic GNR and a few covers thrown in.

What did they cover, out of curiosity?

  • I saw them in Atlanta last year, good show. I also saw Slash and Myles Kennedy, and it was a good show too.

  • Really? I was listening to one of their live shows the other day and it sounded terrible. Axl sounded gassed and everything was a little off. His voice too just sounded bad as if the cigarettes and booze finally started to kill his vocal chords. Maybe it was just a bad show because I didn't listen to another one after hearing that one.

  • Just read Duff McKagen's book 'It's So Easy...And Other Lies". Pretty good book that covers the story and gives you a good glimpse at how the band fell apart. It's a super quick read as well, perfect for traveling.

There's also a cover band called Mr. Brownstone "The World's Drunkest GNR Cover Band". I don't like cover bands at all, but these guys are beyond a nostalgia act. They guzzle Jack Daniels up there and work the crowd pretty well. The songs start out pretty tight, but end up in drunken shambles by the end of the night. Also, the fake Axel storms of the stage in these fake little hissy fits and the crowd goes nuts. It's like an SNL bit rolled up into a rock show. They've been on Letterman and played Bonaroo. Well worth the 10.00 for a good laugh. Recommended only seeing in small clubs.
