Proof? I bet you there is not a piece of clothing or equipment that she used that she didn't get paid for. She won skiing competitions all over the world and I'm sure you get paid for those. Not saying she made 500k or anything like that but I would bet big money she stood to make at least 100k in year.

I don't have proof, but many successful Canadian Olympic athlete's and world champions make shit all. Sara Burke was essentially a nobody, she certainly wasn't making significant endorsement money in Canada.

So give me an example of someone more famous than her that makes less than 100k. She was the most popular woman's X-Games skier. I know that isn't a huge sport, but definitely big enough for sponsors to want to sponsor her as she is an ICON in her sport. Skiing is an expensive and very popular sport and manufactures make billions a year.

Sad. Without help from her fans, this girls family might have had to file for bankruptcy in order to pay her medical bills.
What about the truly poor in the U.S.? Half of Americans live at or below the poverty line. Is it right that they can't afford to go to the doctor or hospital?

I'm from Canada. I had never heard of Sara Burke until she died. She might have made a decent living, but highly doubtful it was 6 figures. Canadian Olympic athletes make nothing, that's why Canada is so shit at sports, we don't invest in sports.

So I have a Canadian neighbor here on a work visa married to an Aussie. They put out their Maple Leaf flag when she died. So there you have it.....his feelings cancel out yours or vice versa. The fact remains that winter sports are Canada's equivalent of football (American style).

No it's not. How are you some random American trying to tell me how Canadians view sports?
Hockey is the equivalent of American Football.
In terms of Sports hierarchy of popularity it goes:
Hockey Hockey Hockey
American Football Canadian Football
Basketball Baseball
Others.
Canadian's don't love watching all these winter sports because it's cold here. Plenty of Canadians would prefer warm weather, we aren't some weird country that loves winter regardless of what those terrible beer adds say.

Random American.....lol. No different than a random Canadian.
Hockey is a winter sport last time I checked. It's clearly number one but my point was really to emphasize that skiing and other Alpine events are big whether you knew who Sarah Burke was or not.
Nobody said Canada was weird. I do find this story interesting to say the least. A US fund gets set up to raise money for an as yet undetermined amount, ends up raising more than necessary, and insurance may still be applied even though Canada's sports agency carries coverage for sanctioned events but not this one.......which was sponsored by Sarah's biggest endorsements.

I live in Canada, I get a more accurate of what sports Canadians like. After all, I am surrounded by Canadians.
Skiing and snowboarding are popular activities in terms of participation, not in terms of watching on TV, or paying to watch events.
Downhill, Super G, Slalom skiing might occasionally be on CBC (government funded TV) but rarely if ever, would whatever sport Sara Burke did be on TV.

So I guess Sarah was a Canadian who made a living and a dying on the American dime. Not directed at you by any means but perhaps the story writer and OP could acknowledge the gap is between their ears and not in the US health system.
I did just look it up and it appears that TSN will be airing 16 hours of coverage to the Winter X games starting this Thursday and additionally will air 24 hours of consecutive coverage dedicated to the career of Sarah Burke.....not much at all I guess.

Yeh 24 hours now because she is dead. Funny how our culture works, you die and instantly you get a lot more press then ever before.
So there are 16 hours for x-games, that's less then 1/366th of this years potential air time.
Trust me. Sara Burke was not a very famous athlete, Canadians are much more likely to know any hockey player, star football player, basketball player etc... over Sarah Burke.
EDIT: BTW I am sticking out of this health care issue, because it's gotten me nothing but insults in the past. My point is strictly about Burke's income, and popularity within Canada.

Well there would have to be 24 hours of accomplishments to air. It's not like she did much since the accident. And you can spin any way you like but these X games only occur in the Winter months so now you have increased their coverage percentage to almost one full day out of less than one week of competition. 1/7 isn't too shabby for rarely, if ever.
