OT New, Ignorant, Frustrated first time Apple User

I'm having issues moving all my files and folders from my PC(Windows 7 Ultimate) to my new MAC.
Can anyone suggest the best way to be able to open files and folders on a MAC that were and appear to be transferred properly from a flash drive?

from my dealings with apple just about most to all your files are lost because they were not written for Mac. I think you can take your flashdrive to a best buy and get them to convert the files IIRC

Let me help, what kind of files are we talking about here? Documents? Music? Que? I did some IT work while I was in college so I may be able to help.

Here is another option, put all of the files on a download link, like YouSendit.com... and email that link to yourself and then download on the Mac.
Flash drives and hard drives are either set to work with PC or Mac so you can't really go back and forth between the two (with most anyway).

I dunno I've had my Mac 18 months and have not had a SINGLE issue with it so they can't suck that bad. PC wore out, though I'd see what all the hype was about and am satisfied with the purchase. And I am not some apple junkie, I own a laptop and a iPod I bought like three years ago.

Files and Folders. There are Word and Excel docs, images etc within the folders and files. It looks like everything transferred over, but I can't open it?
Is there an app I should use from the app store?

I like this idea. The Flash dive said it's compatible with both my PC and my MAC. Perhaps I miss understood and the flash drive is only good from one type to another.
Can I send entire folders through yousendit.com and is it safe?

Are you sure that the files you copied are the files themselves and not just shorcuts?

No, the same programs are not represented on the MAC AS MY PC.
I dragged and dropped the folders I needed to the the flash drive, I'll have to double check it though.

My second thought is that it's a shortcut problem. .Lnk is an extension windows uses to recognize shortcuts for files on your computer.

Just went from a PC (windows 7) to Macbook Pro... Had no problems transferring my big business folder over via flash drive... Should work, if not Best Buy will get it.

this. sounds like you need to get microsoft office for mac, or if you do have it, designate the office word/excel programs to open those kinds of files.
if you have office on your mac, open it first then try opening the files from inside word/excel.

Office docs, you should get MS Office. For any video files that won't open, download VLC. I have had no problems transferring files from a PC. Use the apple migration assistant. Apple support is excellent as well.
