OT: Obama's state gives US drivers license to illegals

  • Final Countdown said...

Yes, Congress gets to set immigration policy... but that doesn't mean they have exclusive authority in the area of who gets drivers licenses. Constitutionally, this is more of a state-level licensing issue and less of an immigration issue.

(Also, you should probably be aware that you just made an argument against state-level immigration crackdowns like those in Arizona, Georgia, Alabama, etc.)

I'm guessing that you support this and that was what I was asking. Yes, those states that you listed are doing the same thing. However, they are making laws that are in line with not give rights to invading illegal aliens, which is in line with their interpretation of Article IV, Section 4 of the constitution.

I'm perfectly fine with you not supporting this law. But don't go nuts and start warping a rarely-invoked clause of the constitution that doesn't really say what you're claiming it says. Just because you dislike something, doesn't make it unconstitutional. That's all, man.

For the record, I support what you're saying. I'm more familiar with illegals than just about anybody on this board. I think people's issue on here is why license them if they are illegal? Why not deport them instead? (or allow them to become legal TAX PAYING residents)

Many undocumented immigrants do pay taxes.

Wow. Good God people, I don't even see how there could possibly be a debate over this bill.

The primary purpose of the new law is to document all the drivers in the state. By issuing licenses, the state is setting in motion the process for illegal immigrants to get car insurance, thus greatly reducing the number of uninsured drivers. In addition, it's making the roads safer by ensuring that a greater number of people will actually have passed basic driving tests to obtain their licenses.

Anyone who has ever been in an accident with an uninsured/underinsured driver should be applauding this bill.

Oh, and BTW - half of the Republicans in the Illinois senate voted for this. Before people go all paranoid, this was actually bipartisan - the Democrats aren't trying to pull some stunt here.

But how can someone that is illegally here, get a legal U.S document

So do you support illegal aliens getting US drivers licenses?

You must be the stupid one. Where in the Constitution does it say you have to stop at stop signs? Where in the Constitution does it say we can't rob banks at knife point? Since it doesn't say either of those then should we just assume it is ok?

Listen stupid you were the one that asked if giviing driving licenses To illegals was constitutional?

U have to admit that was a very stupid question on your part.

I pay (un/under)insured driver insurance anyway

  • Only way they would be able to turn this around is to round up all the illegals and ship them off. But first give them 6 months to a year to register

  • This makes some sense. Now if an illegal alien gets in a car accident, he won't flee the scene and leave you with a huge bill to pay and a ridiculous amount of insurance problems.

I had a friend get his car t-boned (and totaled) by a guy who fled the scene, presumably because he was illegal. Cost him $9,000 to get a new car, and he got a crappier model.

Enter country illegally, but if given a drivers license will adhere to all state insurance requirements?

    Lol. That's rich

Ding ding ding, we have a winner. Why pay for insurance when they don't have to now. They get cited for it and are back on the road within 30 min.

And that situation is exactly what this law is intended to address.

That is all your opinion. The only thing you listed that isn't an assumption is the database.

I could just as easily say that they won't pay insurance. Why would they? They didn't abide by our immigration laws so why follow driving laws. They have uninsured accidents, causing everything you said to be false besides the database.

    justinboze

  • Well, it's kinda a requirement to be here legally. Hence the term illegals.... But let's not discuss that part of it.

Not saying everyone will, but I'm sure some will. Fewer uninsured drivers means less chance someone gets screwed by having to pay for car repairs caused by an uninsured driver.

Or more drivers, then over time more and more dont renew insurance that results in a higher % of uninsured accidents. That means higher chance someone gets screwed by having to pay for car repairs caused by an uninsured driver.

Also, this will create more voter fraud.
