OT: Samsung Galaxy S3

  • Any Galaxy S3 users here? I am thinking of getting one of these instead of upgrading to the iPhone 5. Thoughts? They seem to have pretty comparable features. Any glaring disadvantages to using the S3 I may not be aware of?

  • I have had mine for a couple weeks and love it. Sometimes the light dims while I'm trying to use it but I hear that will be resolved with the upgrade from ice cream sandwich

  • Got it about a month ago and it's been awesome. Like Macks said only drawback to it is the batter life if you are constantly on it. You can go buy an extra battery for relatively cheap though.

  • S3 is awesome. I just threw my iphone in the dumpster (jk sold it on craigslist) and bought a htc one x. Only reason I didn't get the s3 was because it was 100 dollars more. As an iphone user, I'm going to mess around with droid until apple decides to start putting out better products instead of adding a friggin inch in length and market it as a new phone.

    A buddy at work got one and I couldn't agree more. It isn't that much bigger, size wise, vs the s3 (it sounds like it is, but at the end of the day not so much), so he slips it into his pocket just fine. Damn thing is a beast.

    If you are on Verizon, there is a new Droid DNA coming out that is worth a hard look too.

    Ive gor it. Its pretty good. Its not a lot better than an iphone. Maybe it takes sometime to adjust to the size and functions but as of now i give It a .... meh.

    Also, no spell check which could be a disastor for grammar police.

    No spell check? Are you talking about the S3 or a flip phone?

    Its just interesting, because you would be the first person I have seen go from iPhone to an S3 and not be much happier. I went to the Note from the iPhone and I'll never go back to being handcuffed by Apple again. My wife went to the HTC One X and she will never be handcuffed by Apple again either.

  • Does anyone know if the s3 can send and receive group text messages? I currently have the Samsung Charge and I am updating in about a month. I currently cannot receive group texts in a group message. They come in as a 1 on 1 text and goes into the text thread with that person. It gets confusing if a bunch of people are responding and it is going to their individual message threads. Also, when I send a group text, it sends the message to each person individually, instead of creating a "group chat thread" like you can have on an iphone. Any help clearing this up is greatey appreciated! TIA

    If it has a spell check, i cant find it. It has that dumb littlw thing that tries to finish whatever word it thinks you want but it sucks comoared to thr Apple spellcheck. The battery life absolutely sucks. I got it 4 days ago, fully charged it and it laster about 2.5-3 hrs surfing the web. Im not gonna return it and go back with an iphone though. Im gonna keep it and give it a chance because i dont like being tied to Apple products either. I think its just gonna take sometime to get used to. Its a ton faster though.

    It's worth it man. Iphone has gotten so bland and so out of date as of late and droid has come out with some new amazing software updates in jelly bean and icecream sandwich. I've had every version of iphone and I was just so underwhelmed by the 5 I had to switch to get something new. Within a few hours of playing with it you'll realize you made the right decision. So many things to mess around with.

    That is the one thing that makes me wish I had an iphone. almost all of my friends have iphones so when someone sends a group text I get them all under each individual and the conversation is tough to follow and I can't reply to everyone.

    When the keyboard is up for texting, click the little flower looking button next to the space bar. It comes up there. At least it does for my 2 year old Samsung Charge.

    It should be lasting you much longer than that. Are you managing your apps? As in, shutting them down when you are done in your task manager? Look into some launcher apps. I use GoLauncher, and I use its task manager. I have it on one of my pages. I just click a button and it clears and shuts down anything hat is running. I hit the button multiple times a day. Nothing is stock on my Note, and it can last me all day if I let it. If you are watching constant video, then there isn't much you can do. Video uses battery, no matter what brand of phone you have.

    As far as spell check goes, I'm not sure.

    See the word"sure" that I just typed? I actually typed surw, but it fixed it for me when I finished the word. Isn't that the same thing as spell check?

    I was so glad I could separate myself from iTunes. I just download any song or album right to my phone for free.
