The food at Mexican resorts are all much better than the islands, for the most part.

Agree with that statement 100%. I will go mexico all day over the caribean

I agree that the food is better, but I still would go to the Caribbean first. Just much more laid back and enjoyable, IMO. I like being able to get off the resort more as well.

Honestly, I would recommend Costa Rica very much as well.

I agree. It was fine. It's more of a supply problem in the islands. Of couse you can't go to the Carribean expecting to find great beef.

The alcohol was top notch. Love Peton brew.

Def no food snob, with any location some places will have great service and the resort next door will not. Also outside the resort, didnt care for Montego Bay but negril could be nice nut I havent been. Dont really care for out in Cancun but Cabo is nice. So my point is you really cant go wrong each have pros and cons. Prob stay away from the US/Mexico border towns as I would like to keep my head

For me it certainly didn't take away from the experience. The rainforest was amazing. We didn't zip line, but we did the bike ride to the waterfall.

I didn't go for the food, myself. Just an observation. I thought there were some great highlights as far as food goes though.

The sun, the beach, and even the darn St. Lucian that made me swim 300 yards back to shore after dumping me off my intertube were the reasons I went. Of course, while he laughed at me, he had someone waiting with a drink for me back on the beach.

St. Lucia was a great island and we felt very safe leaving the resort as well. Definitely not the case on all the islands, namely Jamaica.

I've heard that also about Jamaica. I can't wait to go to the Bahamas now.

What part are you looking to go. You have to get to Freeport or Nassau, but I would stay on a different island it were me.

  • The only Sandals resort that I stayed in was in St. Lucia. The island itself is beautiful and the resort was enjoyable. I think that the best part of the resort is the service from the staff. They really go the extra mile to insure that you are happy and to accommodate any request you have. We had dinner set up on our balcony one evening (my then husband set it up as a surprise for me) and they even managed to whip up my favorite dessert and a flower arrangement for the table with my favorite flowers.

I am getting married next April, any suggestions on a honeymoon place in the Caribbean? Plan on staying at least 5 nights. Willing to pay upwards of 5k for the hotel.

I honestly do not know how much it costs but my favorite resort in the Caribbean is the Ritz Carlton on Seven Mile Beach in the Caymen Islands. My second favorite is the Intercontinental Presidente in Cozumel.

Ladera in St. Lucia. Well worth the $.

  • Went on our honeymoon to Negril, Jamaica, stayed at a RUI resort all inclusive. We loved it, felt very safe, Rick's Cafe with the cliff divers were pretty awesome. If you go to Jamaica, I would definately fly into Montego Bay and stay there or Negril, wouldn't venture over to the Kingston Side of the island. I have heard that Sandals has a no tipping policy, which bothers me. This could be hearsay, but if my bartender takes care of me, i want to take care of him, and apparently at Sandals, they can get fired for accepting tips.

Just got back from my honeymoon in Belize. Spent 4 nights at caves branch, a jungle/adventure resort, then 4 nights at Hamanasi, a beach/diving resort. Both were great, highly recommended.

  • We went to Grande Ocho Rios (I think they have changed the name since then) and it was amazing. We did the Romeo and Juliet Honeymoon Suite - they are awesome. you have your own pool and jacuzzi in a courtyard between your bedroom and living room area (the living room area is small but we spent almost no time there).

That came with butler service, so you had a guy there that would do anything you needed him to do - come pick you up on a golf car, make reservations at restaurants, etc. But they expected you to tip the butler at the end of the week. It was a nice thing to have but not totally necessary.

There is a new one that just opened last year that may be your best bet thought! Its Emerald Bay.
