OT: Santorum wants to ban porn!

    It is up to self control. You are more than likely right, but it is all a personal choice.

    But not really. The choice would be between hooking up or watching porn (I realize most people, if planning to act, would prefer the latter) but if you revoke option B, there is only one choice. Again, assuming they've decided to act on their urges.

    When it comes to things that won't affect me I don't think I have any right to say someone else can't do something.

    That's one of the reasons I'm for allowing people to smoke, drink, have abortions, smoke marijuana, and look at porn.

    I think it's incredibly stupid to try to make someone else conform to your beliefs, by voting to restrict their freedom or campaigning to do so.

    I am not worried about what they consider their freedoms. Religion before state for me. We have been down this road multiple times, for that reason lets just agree to disagree, deal?

    Some of us are able to resist the urges(Not all the time, I can admit). That once again is that persons fault though. There is always an option to divert your path from leading to either of those.

  • I just would be against it because I am more for personal freedoms as long as it doesn't directly affect me. I can see the argument from a parent's perspective and I applaud that you are sticking to your opinions.

    IMO? When my choices have a direct effect on your life. To use an example I use a lot: Two men (or women) having sex with each other in the privacy of their own homes has no direct effect on my life, ergo, I don't see what the problem is. To use another: A guy has a Constitutional right to own a gun and the owning of said gun does not directly affect me, unless he shoots me with it, and then it's my problem, ergo, owning a gun is okay, shooting me with it is not.

    So for a completely hypothetical argument's sake, say porn was only viewable in one building in your city and you had to be of age and have parent's permission (with some sort of ID, bare with me) to get in and watch it. For this reason, you and your daughter would NEVER be exposed to porn. Ever. Would you still vote away the ability for other people to do so?

    I just don't understand that mentality. It doesn't make any sense to me.

    Honestly the biggest thing that drove me away from religion was people who use it to judge other people and are truly hypocritical about their beliefs.

    But the tendency for the religious to insist others conform to their beliefs and be self-righteous about them helps keep me away at this point.

    This would be the beginning of a very slippery slope to me. You ban porn. Next step you ban fight videos. Next you ban curse words. Then before we know it the internet is banned completely.

    I know thats a little extreme. But, this type of censorship is just ridiculous. If you dont like porn, don't click it. If I dont want to watch or see porn I don't have to but that choice is mine to make and that is what America is about.
