OT- Shark Men

  • Time to set your DVR's to Nat Geo tonight at 8pm est. Chris Fischer and his team of anglers and scientists are back in the Pacific Ocean tagging sharks with satellite tags. Last year they tagged Great Whites and followed one all the way up the Sea of Cortez. This year they are after Tigers, Hammerheads, Oceanic's, and just about anything else that swims by their research vessel. Last week they tagged a Silky, Galapagos, and Tiger shark. This week they look to be targeting Hammerheads. It's going to be cool to see which species goes where and how far each travels in search of prey. I'm crossing my fingers they get an Oceanic.

For those who are not familiar with Chris, he and his captain Brett McBride are pretty much the leading authority on saltwater fishing and spear fishing on the West Coast. Chris is LOADED and owns his own production company. He used to have a two shows on ESPN called Ocean Hunter (spear fishing) and Offshore Adventure's (fishing) where they went up and down the West Coast from Panama's famous Hannibal Bank to Alaska. These guys have caught and speared it all. Here is a link to Chris' website for a little more background on him. He married a ginger, but don't hold that against him.

  • They remind me of the charter boat captains I used to live next to in Perdido Key.

  • You can tell there is a lot of tension on the boat. The scientist guy is making everyone mad. These guys know what they are doing and he's in the background giving some kind of lecture about God knows what.

It's pretty funny IMO. It's a scientist telling a fisherman how to do something they know how to do. He was trying to commentate the action while they were trying to concentrate on their job. I did watch this last year and loved it. I kind of wish they were doing bull sharks though. I think it would be entertaining with tons of people being around those sharks...
