Or, instead of forcing a power of attorney, how about they are able to make that decision without having to go through that process.
Better yet, if the solution was so simple, why did the person who wrote the post go through such a painstakingly terrible time because he felt helpless and unable to act on his love for that person. I only imagine it was that terrible time that he experienced that made him realize what needed to be done in retrospect.
Edit: I work in the insurance industry as well, probably not the same one though. I only deal in business insurance. It is a good year if we write $300,000,000 in premium and have $225,000,000 in losses

Your logic (a theme I hear from more liberal lawmakers) about " forcing a power of attorney" is a false arguement. I stated that these rules were in place to protect not hinder. The same left view is taken on immigration (those poor people shouldn't have to register) like someone forced them to come here! In South Carolina they simply wanted to make sure that voters had proper ID to vote. The Department of (IN)Justice and black Eric Holder said that was racist. Look I don't want mistreatment of anyone but what this ruling really is about along with the Gay thing is Power! I don't have a problem with Eric Holder being black or having Power what I have a problem with is abuse of power. His ruling means buses from Inner City Chicago (Obamaville) or wherever else can bring people in without ID and they can vote in a state in which they have no business doing so. For that matter felons can as well. The healthcare law that was suppose to be about "affordability" cut $12.1 from home care and 9.1 from Hospice both areas proven to save the system lots of money and be more cost effective care than Hospitals. Furthermore, I talked to a congress member who is a MD and he told me not one of the 30 plus MD's on Capital Hill was consulted or included in the discussion because they had an R behind their name. If they goal is improvement doesn't it make sense to talk to those in the industry that are able to craft the laws because they are elected officials representing the people. No because it is not about the people, hope, change or anything else with the current administration it is about Agendas and Power. That is what the gay and "women's healthcare" debate is trying to do is gain more Power. Btw I did not have a hard time because of what decisions I could or could not make but (she made them and her parents could have if she could not) because I hated to see her suffer.

Just thought I would point out that power of attorney was an alternative suggested by another poster put forth to grant gays equal rights in a life or death situation.
Oh and also to add to this:
Btw I did not have a hard time because of what decisions I could or could not make but (she made them and her parents could have if she could not) because I hated to see her suffer.
What if her parents had disowned her because she was gay (or living a lifestyle they did not accept) and she was not in a position to make the decision herself? Would you have suffered more being powerless to make a decision?
