OT: So to be clear, in North Carolina

  • So I just want to be clear, there are people ITT who think we should make laws based on their religious beliefs?

Not really, I mean, I guess i had started putting together a little about sex but here's an example. I was 4 years older than one of my cousins. When he was 4 and I was 8, I told my dad about how my cousin was "different". I explained to him that my 4 year old male cousin was more like a girl than a boy. I later told his older brother, who is a year older than I am, the same thing. He explained that some boys are just like that and only look like boys. That's about as close to "he's gay" as you can get from a 9 year old in 1983. A year later, my sister who was then 6 told me she though he was really a girl. That was when he was 5 and she clearly didn't understand the concept of homosexuality at that age. As he got older and we got wiser, we realized what we'd been seeing is that he's just a flaming faggot and we had been seeing it since he was barely out of diapers. You want to tell me he wasn't born that way? Just decided when he was 4 that he likes cock instead of vag? I have a few other examples very similar to that one.

Why did you think he was different?

Yea, I can't wait for a repub to get into office to decide which laws he likes and which he doesn't.

That would have happened if a Republican won the WH, and the Supreme Court decided on the HCR law next year.

I'm completely OK with that. If you think something is wrong, don't waste resources trying to defend it.

Well yes, because as soon as we had man and woman, we had homo sexuality. If that someone decided what's wrong and right, why did that someone allow homosexuality?

That doesn't make sense. As soon as we had man and woman, we had fucking. Homosexuality had to come along some time after fucking, when we had at least two of one sex, although I rather doubt the very first two men just instantly started plugging each other.

As a society, we decide that based on the laws we pass - but those laws should not be allowed to infringe upon civil liberties nor discriminate against a group of people, based on who they are. There is a difference between discriminating against Ohio State fans and picking against people who are gay, straight, black haired, blue eyes, blonde, tall, short, etc

In other words, YOU should be able to decide what is right or wrong, not society and certainly not God.

Why not? Obama worships government and governs accordingly.

dude, dont you understand that civil liberties and civil laws are not mutually exclusive? There is no need for one without the other. Which means liberties have boundaries... you have the right to pee on your grass... and when you pee on my grass, the law of my boot in your nuts is going to usurp your liberty to pee anywhere for a long time

Que? I'm saying there's a difference between discriminating against someone based on what they are, and judging someone for what they believe in. What I was getting at there, was that simply because you believe in murder or something like that, doesn't mean you are protected by our constitution from laws that might stop you from doing what you believe in.

Yes. He wants to impose his morality on you, but it's ok, because he only wants what's best for you and you aren't smart enough to make those decisions for yourself.

Sorry, not the way the system works! If you want to change it make your case to the American people and get congress to change it. The president doesn't get to decide. He is not king!

Good enough for me. For the record, if the gays want to be married then I have no issue with it. I do feel that the church has the right to deny performing the ceremony though. Besides that, if they want to receive the same tax breaks as everyone else, who the heck cares?!

I have ZERO problem with Churches denying gay marriage - and I won't say they're even morally wrong for doing so. I won't question their beliefs, so long as they aren't physically harming others. In America, they don't have the power to take civil rights/liberties of people who live here, and that's all I ask.

Where did morality come into my arguement? Unless you're saying me saying "laws based on bigotry are wrong" is me pushing morality to you? By every single definition, the Amendment One is bigotry. They are literally denying people a right, based on who they are. That's not my fault. If you don't like it, change the definition of bigotry.

We still have DOMA, because the courts have not made a decision. So I'm not sure I get your point here.

Read your post. You consider your personal morality the only legitimate basis for making political decisions for everyone else.

Churches???? I am not religious in the least, and the only reason I've gone into a church is because of a wedding or christening. I can't think of a single civil liberty/right that any religion has taken away from me.

I know what I posted, and it's not my morality that's driving any of my posts. It's my understanding of the English language and the concept of bigotry.

Though I guess I'll accept that I'm pushing "bigotry is bad" on people?
