OT: Syria has armed bombs with Sarin Gas....

  • to use on their own people. Well, we won't wait till the first bomb drops....is this our entry moment? Doubt it would take many boots on the ground. A couple hundred precision bombs and a Seal Team 6 type deployment on the President and its likely over in 12-24 hours.

This Syrian situation going forward is CRUCIAL to Middle East stability.

    fsufsu

  • Or.....

We could just give them a no-fly zone, have some drones drop some bombs, maybe a special forces team go in here and there. That is the max amount of effort we should give.

I don't even think we should do that much. I say we don't lift a finger and let people work out their own problems without the US having to intervene.

    Bradley4Panic

  • Screw getting involved in all these other countries' problems. Cruise missiles and drones should be the maximum force used on our part.

Seal Team 6? I would say more like the 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions. That's not Bin Laden we are going after.

We need to choose whether we are going to be the policeman or not. If we don't, I have no problem letting Syria take the first hit in the dick from that move. Personally, the only real conflicts going forward will likely be small national ones and honestly, we don't need to worry about those. Now if they start to turn into a regional conflict, then we might have to do something.

Even a cruise missile will have some collateral damage and inspire a new generation of America haters. That part of the world has proved you can't give them any help of any kind without them hating you for it. Furthermore, we'd be accused of only acting based on oil interests, etc. There's no winning with those people, just let the chips fall where they may.

They don't have any oil. That's one of the reasons we haven't done anything yet, but I agree with your assessment.

That's why we need to change our energy strategy to make more/import from other areas/change fuel types etc.

Wasn't trolling. I think it's retarded to take the stance "it's their problems not ours"... Obviously sometimes (used Hitler as an example) it is definitely necessary to get involved. Not saying this is one of them but it's just a dumb statement.

I mean. It's clearly on a case by case basis. Syria doesn't make the cut IYAM.

You quite literally posted exactly what I posted. You added no-fly zone.

That's what ish like the Arab League and the UN are for.

I'm sorry, but bad stuff happens everyday all over the world, including our own country.

Yes they do actually, but that's not the point -- if we did intervene in Syria, oil wouldn't actually have anything to do with it, but it's an example of the sort of things that would be said, including by many in our own country.

.48% of world production and miniscule percentage of our imports. They are essentially "without oil".

The thing is the middle east has, is and will always be unstable. For the next 1000 year's. Some things will never change. They hate each other. You know, like most of us.

What people do you speak of? I'm pretty sure if there was a genocide taking place, we'd do something about it.

It's never a bad thing to save innocent people's lives.. regardless of what country they reside in.

Genocides are extremely rare and WWII is completely different than this Syria stuff. Risk saving lives to get our Americans killed when they're going to kill off a lot of their own people regardless?

Agree to disagree, this is one situation I think the USA should stay away from.. Now, if the UN helped and it wasn't JUST Americans, that's a different story.

It's not a comparison you nimrod. It was a philosophical reminder. Good grief, it's no surprise you and teenager BLF thought it was so inappropriate. Your perspective stretches back to just after Carson Daly hosted TRL.

The IDEA that peoples issues "over there" are those peoples' issues is what kept many people from getting involved when Adloph first started looking shady as all hell.

Do you really think countries like Syria are that big of a threat to us? I said we should use drones and cruise missiles. We could target military positions and destroy their weapons stockpile but I damn sure don't want one single American to lose their life over what is happening in Syria.

Also any comparison made back to WW2 is not exactly apples to apples with what is happening today. Technology today as far more advanced and our intel capabilities are much better. We can keep them in check without resulting to full blown war.
