OT: V For Vasectomy

  • Thinking about having one done.

Anybody here on tBB ever had one?
Can somebody give me the low-down? Was it painful at all? Out-Patient procedure? How's this work? It is reversible as well IIRC?

    Serious question here...

    TIA on any insight/responses.

  • I'm already pretty lazy about sex--don't like feeling sticky afterwards and too lazy to shower. I think if I wasn't sending my soldiers into battle, I'd probably give up all together.

Should You Get a Vasectomy?: Men's Lives: GQ

It seemed like the perfect contraception: no hormone-weirding pills, no devices to insert, no more latex. Ever. Sure, you had to let a surgeon take a scalpel to your balls, but afterward youd get to have baby-proof sex for the rest of your life. Bareback, baby-proof sex

i know what "soldiers" infers, but this comment "don't like feeling sticky afterwards and too lazy to shower"

suggests that he thinks that nothing would come out anymore, which would be incorrect

  • It's not bad at all.

I go in Monday for my post-op follow up appointment. Got to bring in a sample.

    I don't think that's what he's saying.

He's saying if he didn't have soldiers to send into battle he would give up. In other words, getting a vasectomy would ruin it completely. What's the point in being a general if you don't have an army?

  • It's not that bad. The worst part to me was the shot that numbs them...it takes it a minute to get numb so until then it's just a needle to the junk. I had it done before a four day weekend and was back to work on Monday, you just have to be a man about it.

Don't think of it as "going under the knife." It's an out patient procedure. You'll be on the couch a couple days then you'll be fine.

  • They told me it's reversible, but they couldn't be 100% that it could be reversed, about the same as they can't be 100% that it will take to begin with. My advice, FWIW, wear a hat or use an alternate form of control until you have all the kids you're going to have, then get it done.

    Congrats on the marriage!

With all due respect, talk to your doctor. Vasectomies are not easy or cheap to reverse, you need to look at it like a permanent decision not something you can just switch on and off.

Has your wife tried an IUD? I was on Ortho for a while, but finally switched to an IUD and it's what I recommend to my friends.

I think I'm back here. Probably not going back to the bodda getta anytime soon. I'm trying to ease back in.

Back to the topic. I avoid sex now because I don't like showering or cleaning up afterwards. I know that I'd still be shooting, but not having the chance to get a chick pregnant would completely de-incentivize sex for me.

  • I am thinking of having it done as well. I am almost 29 with 3 kids. We are done making babies. My biggest fear is the initial shot that numbs everything.

My doctor (Dr. Breaux) put a topical on my boys to help ease the pain of the shot. Still hurt but wasn't excruciating.

I have pretty good insurance. About how much was your deductible?

I don't remember exactly. It was nominal though.
