OT- Why Do People Still Go In the Water off....

  • Florida beaches suck. Sharks, oil, 1000 degree brown water, stingrays. F that.

Can you still drive on Daytona beach?

yes, and therefore cannot drink on Daytona Beach which in turn takes it off the vacation list

learned that censored the hard way in college on spring break

  • 8 years ago when I lived in Florida, a buddy of mine who worked with DNR told me they went up in a chopper to check out the beach activity one day during spring break in Daytona. He said they saw thousands of sharks that were 5 foot or bigger just of the beach. He said the reason so many people get hit is because the water is murky and the sharks just test bite based off that electrical food finder thingy they have.

Brown water? You need to come to South Florida and the Keys. Crystal clear. Beats that 50 degree water in Cali

    False.

I spent a good amount of time in Ft. Myers the last two years, and it was brown nasty water. Never been down south of that in FL. so I can't speak for the Keys or Atlantic side. Cuban water was hot as hell as well, it didn't even bring relief from the scorching sun. I hate humidity so Florida is like hell on earth for me.

I'm fine sitting in my crystal clear perfect Hawaiian water. biggrin

By who? Sorry but you can't pick that beach over Hawaiian beaches. Not even close. The best beach in Florida isn't on the same level as the worst beach (Waikiki) out here.

First of all, I have been to almost all of the major Hawaiian islands and Waikiki is the only acceptable beach I have seen. Most of the other islands don't have anything remotely acceptable compared to Florida and the Gulf Coast.

Water quality is another subject all together. If you are talking about the combination of water clarity and abundance of sea life, then Hawaii is the best I have experienced for sure.

I have basically lived all over the state of Florida and never seen brown water except in the bays. I don't know what water you are talking about but you are either color blind, an idiot, or a liar. Either way, GTFO

    Not sure if serious.

Waikiki is for you if you like sunscreen filled water with a million tourists and a man made wall to keep the water calm. You might as well get a swimming pool and save your money. Its basically Florida with less heat and better water if you get out to the reef.

If you really think that Kailua, Makapu'u, Sandy's, Hanauma Bay, Chinaman's Hat and anywhere on the north shore (this is only Oahu) aren't acceptable you are in a tiny minority, very old, or are scared to swim. roflmao

What Lahaina or Kihe weren't acceptable because there were too many humpback whales?

Go down to Waikiki and you can count locals who aren't working on one hand.

I don't believe you man. You tried some of the finest wines on earth and said "Nope, only Boxed is acceptable for my pallate."

I lived in Ft. Myers the summer and fall of 2010 and the spring and summer of 2011. I went to the beach almost every weekend and that water was brown, murky, and hot as hell. I imagine the Atlantic side has to be a little different.

I'm not colorblind or lying so I must just be an idiot.

I have lived all over the Panhandle, the Space Coast, and had a fishing hub in Miami and they were all green/blue water. Water gets murky if there is rain. The rain provides runoff which gets into rivers and flows into bays. I have never seen brown water in Florida, but after a huge storm, the sand can be stirred up and it can me kinda murky looking. But again, outside of the bay, I have never, ever, seen brown water.

I was obviously exaggerating, but only a bit. The water for activities (boarding, scuba, etc.) is no contest better in Hawaii, but the actual physical beaches are disappointing. The gulf coast has miles and miles of uniterupted white sugar sand beaches. If you could combine those beaches with Hawaii's water/geography it would be insane.

Kailua - I will give you this one. Gorgeous.

Makapu'u - this beach is tiny.

Sandy's - again, the beach is tiny.

Hanauma Bay - again, gorgeous, but small.

Chinaman's Hat - very nice, but narrow.

Would make sense maybe with the constant afternoon T-Storms. The water wasn't like a flood brown but a murky dull brown. Oily as hell too.

Surely you aren't complaining about the oil that was present during the BP disaster. Are you?

We were told it didn't make it that far, but if so than yes giant oil spills do make those beaches less appealing.

Well if you like a beach for its length that's your prerogative. I'm more of a motion in the ocean man myself.

  • "Here is an ariel pic of NS Beach in 2008 when it had 19 attacks in one year alone"

I am trying to run down an airial shot I took years ago over port st joe bay in nw florida. It looked like there was a bull every 20 square yards. I have been diving there my whole life but after that plane ride I started being a little more attentive to my surroundings. Scariest thing about bull sharks is when you see one swimming away from you and you can see the girth. Like a 50 gallon drum with fins. Eff a shark. Eff 'em.
