I spent a good amount of time in Ft. Myers the last two years, and it was brown nasty water. Never been down south of that in FL. so I can't speak for the Keys or Atlantic side. Cuban water was hot as hell as well, it didn't even bring relief from the scorching sun. I hate humidity so Florida is like hell on earth for me.
I'm fine sitting in my crystal clear perfect Hawaiian water.

First of all, I have been to almost all of the major Hawaiian islands and Waikiki is the only acceptable beach I have seen. Most of the other islands don't have anything remotely acceptable compared to Florida and the Gulf Coast.

I lived in Ft. Myers the summer and fall of 2010 and the spring and summer of 2011. I went to the beach almost every weekend and that water was brown, murky, and hot as hell. I imagine the Atlantic side has to be a little different.
I'm not colorblind or lying so I must just be an idiot.

Not sure if serious.
Waikiki is for you if you like sunscreen filled water with a million tourists and a man made wall to keep the water calm. You might as well get a swimming pool and save your money. Its basically Florida with less heat and better water if you get out to the reef.
If you really think that Kailua, Makapu'u, Sandy's, Hanauma Bay, Chinaman's Hat and anywhere on the north shore (this is only Oahu) aren't acceptable you are in a tiny minority, very old, or are scared to swim.
What Lahaina or Kihe weren't acceptable because there were too many humpback whales?
Go down to Waikiki and you can count locals who aren't working on one hand.

I have lived all over the Panhandle, the Space Coast, and had a fishing hub in Miami and they were all green/blue water. Water gets murky if there is rain. The rain provides runoff which gets into rivers and flows into bays. I have never seen brown water in Florida, but after a huge storm, the sand can be stirred up and it can me kinda murky looking. But again, outside of the bay, I have never, ever, seen brown water.

I was obviously exaggerating, but only a bit. The water for activities (boarding, scuba, etc.) is no contest better in Hawaii, but the actual physical beaches are disappointing. The gulf coast has miles and miles of uniterupted white sugar sand beaches. If you could combine those beaches with Hawaii's water/geography it would be insane.
Kailua - I will give you this one. Gorgeous.
Makapu'u - this beach is tiny.
Sandy's - again, the beach is tiny.
Hanauma Bay - again, gorgeous, but small.
Chinaman's Hat - very nice, but narrow.
