OT: need the help from you salesman

  • I have an interview tomorrow for a sales position. In the interview, I will be doing a role play scenario where I will be given a product and all of the info. about it, then have fifteen minutes to come up with my pitch, and must be prepared for difficult questions from my customers. Any advice where you may have hit a home run in this type of situation. Any do's or dont's? Any advice or creative pitches would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Just act like you know what you are talking about even if you have to BS your way through something.... confidence is everything here because they know you will obviously have time to learn the facts if you get the job. Be smooth.

    What type of products?

been in sales for 25 yrs...

study the info carefully, start by asking questions on what is important to them like, what are you looking for in a good product? cater your answers and point out the highlights to the given info...

price objection will come up and be prepared to sell overall value, NOT PRICE...

almost all companies do not sell the least expensive product but do well because they can show value!

before giving your credentials, ask what they are looking for in a good salesman and again, cater your answers to what they say...

if you dont mind me asking, what industry is it?

  • Thank you. Product will be unrelated to what I will actually be selling. It's a great job, just need to nail this part. Thanks again for any/all advice. Any huge no no's to avoid here?

I agree with the above post. Do not focus on price, in these times value is what sells. People want to know what they are paying for, the sold good is static, its the added value that sets your product apart. Also, communication and attitude is everything. The better you can communicate your product, the easier that product is to sell. Good luck man, wish you the best.

    dont lie,

good interviewers will try and trip u up and its easier to remember the truth then lies...

be prepared to ask questions about them too...every interviewer will ask u at the end if u have any questions for them and knowing their organization and asking them questions shows u are interested in them as well...

lastly, sales is about asking for the order when its all said and done, so ask them for the job...

your close can be; "i am very interested in your company and would like to take the next step, what would that be?"

    or something similar...

    best of luck!!!!

    Shipping industry.

im sure there are variances on price so ask how important is; on time delivery, safety of cargo, reliability etc...

then sell the highlights of your features and benefits to highlight these points...

to use a general example; if wanted to sell you a car, i would ask you to list what is important to you (besides price) and show u a car or truck that meets those criteria...

if you start selling before you know what they want or need you could be trying to sell a mercedes when they really want a taurus...

  • Good call. Any advice on an intro? Go straight to the sell, small talk etc? Thanks.

  • It's your job to "out think" the people you are selling the product to...agree with the above posters don't sell price...overall value and give them something to think about....

    Stay thirsty my friends......

i would start by saying " so i can help you better, may i ask you a few questions to start?"

then start asking all the probing questions that will give you the info you need to present the features and benefits..

try and control the conversation with your questions but dont be overbearing, remember its an interview not a real sales call and the interviewer still needs to gain info on you too...

most important, relax and pretend you are talking with a friend, the conversation will be much smoother...

    everyone gets nervous (its normal)...

    you will do fine!

  • If they are giving you some facts and time to prepare then I would concentrate on that. As long as you can retain all that info and use it in your "sales pitch" then that will be big. I hate these kind of exercises and I would never ask one of my reps to do something like this.

I had an interview one time where the guy asked me to sell him the ball point pen he was holding. Stupid.
