Also you guys gotta stop bitching about gas prices, cuz you really have no fricking idea.
Check pretty much any other place in the world.
Gas in Toronto is about 4.75 a gallon. Gas in Europe is even more expensive.
Whining about 4 dollar gas is just loco.

Again with the mythical environmental-hippie lobby nonsense.
If by environmental lobbies, you mean the average homeowner who lives or owns a home next to the ocean, then yes that is the cause.
Refineries are built next to the water. The laws of supply and demand dictate that condominiums and beach resorts take up most of the land along the shores of America, especially during the last 10-15 years. People who own condominiums pay a lot of property taxes and they have a vested interested in keeping refineries out of their neighborhood or state.
Now on to drilling. The US has 2% of the worlds proven reserves, and uses 20% of the worlds oil. Please do the math for a second. Just for a second please add that up. Opening up domestic production and exploration isn't going to solve the issue. The average citizen of states like Nebraska, is just as virulently against the oil pipeline as the average "environmentalist" because the pipeline isn't going to create jobs, and after researching the facts regarding the oil pipeline most people come to that same conclusion.
Also the citizens and government of Florida do not want drilling near their shores. These issues are not solely created by left wing environmental lobbies, rather it is a conscious decision of the state government and people of Florida. Florida has no control over what Cuba wants to do.
The recent BP pipeline issues has only hardened these opinions on Florida residents.

As for drilling offshore, you are missing the point, the regulations are only keeping US from drilling, no one else!!!! So Cuba and Venezuela and Mexico are laughing all the way to the bank... Because the chance of an accident happening are just as high from offshore rigs nationalized by these companies, EVEN higher because they do not follow the same safety precautions that we would, they are drilling much more to sell to our demand.. so as usual, in this case liberal policy creates the exact opposite of its intent, it is actually more dangerous to the environment than if WE were drilling.

Actually Newt is problably the most intelligent of the canidates on either side. His problem is his moral compass has never quite pointed true north. None of the canidates or Obama is very impressive. Whoever wins wont get alot done because Congress will be divided. 2016 though if Obama does win the Repubs have some serious studs coming up.

No what is Loco is WHY they pay that much for gas in other countries. In the United States you pay an average near 50 cents per gallon on state and federal taxes, This is the last expense. The biggest expense, estimated at near $1.25 p/g are the federal regulations that create different Gas mixtures for different regions in the US, there are 12-15 of them. The extra expense of refining and dispersing these different formulas combined with the fact that we are now artificially creating supply and demand issues with EACH region... IE: the california region has a shortage of its formula, you cant just pull some from Colorado... you have to refine the stuff that goes to California.. OK so just build more refineries right?? WRONG, trying to do that is like trying to open a new Nuclear Power Plant (also gauranteed to send the Radical Environmentalists into an epileptic fit), it gets demagogued and protested to hell and back. All because one of our political parties is held hostage by a radical environmental Lobby. So because of Taxes and Regulation we have $1.75 added.
Now lets look at the other end of the problem (Supply).... drilling: A. We can't even speak about drilling in what could be the largest Oil reserves in the world without sending the above mentioned environmental lobby into apoplexy. Hell we can't even build a pipline from Canada to our refineries without them having their cronies in the US government kill it. B. And we also have regulations that keep us from drilling for oil offshore, for instance, the US cannot drill in the oil rich gulf 20 miles off the coast of Florida... BUT Cuba CAN and does.
So NONE of these solutions are available to us, that is why some people are "whining" with good reason.
NOW, back to Europe, the reason gas is so much higher there, is because of the Socialist leaning governments there, half of the near $8 a gallon they pay is because of Taxes! So in essence what you are saying is quit your b*tchin, those guys pay more taxes than we do....

I understand why your gas is cheaper, I'm not dense.
It's just you guys whine about high prices when your prices aren't even high. Gas prices are only going to continue to rise because people need gas, and it's an easy thing to tax.
Might as well get used to it IMO.

Could be, I never liked him much. There was a 0% I would have voted for him if he won the nomination.
Obama just blew more smoke....
