Oh, you can just tell? Does it come across in your close personal relationship with the president? Does he routinely e-mail you racist jokes? Please, enlighten us as to how you can tell!

I'm just stating the pragmatic nature of what went down. I don't agree with it and you're assuming that the President and his administration is actually progressive in nature.

Fair enough, but that doesn't change the fact that if DEA is going to continue to exist, then the organization is in desperate need of a complete overhaul.

Paramilitary style policing, holding guns to innocent 11 year-olds' heads, and expensive propaganda campaigns for the sake of social engineering are not acceptable.

  • I have a question: Why does she need to know?

I mean it would be nice if the head of the DEA knew all the ins and outs of drugs, but do they REALLY need to?

Does the CFO of a software company need to know HTML, C++, etc.? No! They need to know accounting and managing money.

The head of the DEA seems like a job more about ensuring efficiency and managing people than knowing the life expectantcies of drug users.

Obama's Head of the DEA, Michele Leonhart, couldn't answer several simple questions on the House Floor yesterday. Instead, she did her best (unintentional) Mr. Mackey impersonation.

The head of the DEA dictates the country's drug policy, so it's more than managing an enforcement agency.

All she needed to answer that question was the image below from the Psychopharmacology Department at Bristol University.

Isn't that policy already in place?

And I imagine any time anyone proposed a change in that policy the head of the DEA has other people to bring them all of the information they need to make a decision- experts in pharmocology and drug enforcement, etc.

Again, the head of the DEA doesn't need all that information memorized.

Sure, the President could technically nominate his uncle. So yeah, I guess they don't need to be prepared or know anything about drugs like Michelle Leonhart.

Ideally, the head of the DEA should know about all drugs. When the head of the DEA dictates policy, they should know all about treatments, addiction potential, and the best approaches towards drug education; otherwise, enforcement won't be as efficient as it could be. More than that, he or she needs to know about the biggest epidemic facing our nation-- legal prescription drugs.

Instead of updating our nation's drug policy, Leonhart has set an agency policy of raiding medicinal marijuana dispensaries, as if they are no different than street dealers and traffickers (in states where medicinal marijuana is legal). Beyond that, she's corrupt, and spent $123,000 on a vacation to Columbia.

All Michelle Leonhart knows is law enforcement. She knows nothing about the more modern science that is critical to creating a more effective drug policy. Instead, she uses 20th century propaganda to dictate her policy. Because she's stuck in the past, the creators of bath salts and synthetic marijuana (or "spice") have subverted our country's archaic drug enforcement policy. Every time the government makes the active ingredient in these products illegal, the chemists simply manipulate the molecule. The new molecule makes their product legal again, and the bath salts and spice containing the new molecule are put on the shelf without any testing. Because George Bush and Barrack Obama thought Leonhart could manage a law enforcement agency and ignored her lack of knowledge about drug policy, children are literally dying.

And you're advocating that all we need is a good manager to head up the DEA?

Sorry to be blunt, but kids are dying because of that approach, man. We need someone to head the DEA who's up-to-date on science, knows about contemporary drug policies, knows about the latest studies on drug education, and is a good manager.

Alcohol is probably 10x more dangerous than Marijuana, yet its legal. I have yet to hear anyone in power explain this to me. This coming from a guy that does not partake in the devil's lettuce.

The reason alcohol is legal (and tobacco for that matter) and marijuana is not is because of chit that happened WAY back in the day.

Tobacco and Alcohol were substances that White people were making a lot of money off of. Marijuana (THC) was a substance that originally was being profited by Chinese/non-white people. Opium dens were huge before marijuana was illegalized and the money was being made by non-whites.

Despite scientific knowledge that marijuana is less harmful than alcohol, alcohol stays legal because of racism that happened way before we were born. People (politicians) don't want to change it because you cannot win a campaign if you say "I want to make marijuana legal". Too many idiots in the world that would think "This guy is pro-drug and he wants to ruin our society".

That's the story in a nutshell.
