This all depends on the Meyer vs Mattison matchups.
Im not disrespecting Hoke, or discrediting his abilities. Mattison and Grantham (UGA) were probably the 2 best hires in the last few yrs.
Meyer knows first hand how much better that Mich defense will be under him.
Meyer is the safest answer, because he will have an experienced qb after the ban. But, Hoke/Mattison will be very good as well.

MD is doing a great job of building a brand at MSU but he also has the more difficult road to travel. The other two stepped in to jobs where the brand was already built and they just had to make it their own. With that said he also gets more forgiveness when things go poorly in a season, Hoke would be second on the forgiveness level, but if Meyer doesn't win and win quickly he would likely have the shortest leash because of his reputation and our record over the last 10 years (both wins and the bad stuff we are all trying to forget).

I have to go with this, logically Hoke is restaffing his roster to fit his identity which is usually a 4 year endeavor, 3 at the least. Meyer is basically 1 -2 years in the making to make the transition, especially since he already has 3 qbs that are made to order for his new "ProSpread" offense. Blue's schedule this year is borderline brutal and will be a better marker, than last year, which if things go badly could be a set back in the personality of the team and next year is a new qb and probably a bigger switch over to the Pro I offense. MSU is not going to get any better until OSU and Blue raise the bar. The beat downs they have been taking in the bowls just goes to show you that there is not enough hardline competition during the season to sharpen the ax, if you will. I think the addition of Neb. will definitely help the cause of the league to raise the bar for sure. IYAM

I can agree with this. With three traditional powers in our backyard (UM, OSU, ND), recruiting will obviously be more difficult. The key for us is to keep getting the Ohio guys OSU passes over with the occasional four/five-star type. Our staff has proven to be excellent at finding and developing talent and must continue to do so to keep up. Like I said, not likely that MSU reaches that point, but with our weaker schedule and the development of our defense over the next few seasons, who knows. I would think UM and OSU fans would like a stronger overall conference, which means a strong MSU, Wisconsin, PSU, Nebraska, Iowa. The way some of your fans make it sound, they want the "Big 2 Little 10." I don't really get that reasoning.

It so hard to go undefeated then win a NT, but MSU has the best chance in the next two years and it's really hard to argue that with the changes OSU is going through and Michigan having a freshmen QB next year.

MSU doesn't have a Cam-like player on offense, but their defense is much better than Auburn's was in 2010 when they won the title. I don't think it's particularly likely that MSU wins a NC anytime soon but a solid defense can do wonders even with a so-so offense.

This is thing that would keep you from being top 5 at the end of the year which goes back to "sharpening the ax" SOS will down you on the respect, beating an undefeated Blue is the only redeeming factor that could help and if that is the only game they were to lose, the voters are gonna put it to the rivalry and Blue would still be ahead of you in the polls because of their SOS this year.

I'm sure coach D will be laughed at for being on this list but let me throw this out there. In 2013-2014 we will have...
-A RS Senior Elite 11 QB -4 of 5 O-linemen returning that have two+ years of starting experience -All WR's return including 3 that were top 100 recruits -If Big Will comes back the D-line will return 3 of 4 and be very deep and talented -7 starters from last years top 5 defense were sophomores -A senior all big ten caliber RB -Returning TE -Miss Ohio State, Penn State, and Wisconsin on our schedule plus get Michigan at home.
It so hard to go undefeated then win a NT, but MSU has the best chance in the next two years and it's really hard to argue that with the changes OSU is going through and Michigan having a freshmen QB next year.

With Nebraska moving their recruiting into the Midwest, that will hurt MSU. Michigan and tOSU will continue to grab the top talent, and MSU has been thriving off of getting the passed over 3* and low 4* kids. Those are The same type of kids that Nebraska is picking up. It will be interesting watching the Nebraska and MSU recruiting battles in the future.

I think you need to stop being snarky and realize that Dantonio is one of the main reasons you won your only national championship in the last 40 years. With our schedule in the next few years and the progression of our defense, you can never rule anything out. Not saying it's likely, but who in a million years would have thought Auburn would win a championship last year? Not many.
