This is true. Life is too good for a member of congress or another elected official to risk being kicked out of office.
Quite frankly, I don't think very many of them could survive in the working world, so they are all about surviving in their current state of no consequence and general tomfoolery.

I grew up around guns as my father owns 20+. The right to own guns should NEVER be taken away from us. However, the time has come to take a look at what should be allowed and what shouldn't. IMO, Semi-automatic weapons, hand guns and extended clips need to go (outside of the military and law enforcement). There is no reason to own a gun other than to hunt and protect your home, both of which can be done with shotguns and rifles. There needs to be a length requirement on guns so that they cannot be easily concealed in public. I also agree that people with more severe mental conditions should not be allowed to purchase firearms of any kind. Something needs to be put on their record so that when a background check is done, they are flagged.
Would that stop gun violence? No... illegal firearms will still be available and domestic violence with legal guns will persist, but it should reduce the number of incidents.

No, it doesn't need to go, and we don't need to allow the government to deem which weapons we can own, and which we can't. Those types of weapons serve a purpose, and there is a big segment of the population that knows how to use such weapons. If they ban these weapons, then it will just promote a black market of the same type.

Protection. If someone breaks into my house that means they are threatening myself and my family, and I will shoot and kill them on the spot. You have a problem with that, then just don't own a gun. Don't tell me that I can't because you don't agree with owning them.

What does it matter the weapon that I chose for self defense? The point is that it is my constitutional right to own guns, and I don't like the government taking those away just to fit their agenda. As much as I hate westboro baptist church, I don't want the constitution changed just cause it is inconvenient for us.

Where does it say in the constitution that you have to be in a malitia to own a gun? Why do I need to be regulated once I get one? You are advocating for more government, but I want less. Our society has become too dependent on our government, we need to become more self sufficient.

Same here. I sort of felt sorry for Romney because he came across so plastic like robo candidate, but I believe he would have done a good job working with all parties for solutions.
That being said, second term presidents typically are more willing to compromise, so perhaps Obama will.
