Yeah I heard that. Not sure what I think about that.

I know I don't like it but there was no way the execs were going to sink money into this without bringing back alot of the original cast. They figure the average person is too stupid to realize the movies are related and wouldn't understand why Legolas wasn't there.

That and they wanted to drag it out into two movies.

Hopefully they won't ruin it then. I don't give a F if people don't know how the two are related...but i am not the one who wants to make millions from it either

Lebron James will never be as good as Michael Jordan, thus we should get rid of his nickname, "The King".

Would have thought all the slow motion Jackson loves so much would be enough to drag it out to two movies without him having to change the story.

It has been a while since I watched LOTR but I don't remember that much slow motion.

  • I'm thoroughly pumped for this, the trilogy is my favorite series of movies...I remember the plot from reading the hobbit for some middle school class and its definitely long enough to make 2 movies and I think Jackson will just stretch out the beginning with some extra script where bilbo opens the book talking to frodo

I actually think they are taking parts from Tolkiens published notes, Unfinished Tales and stuff like that, and adding that into the movie. I haven't bothered to research it that much though so i'm not positive.

I just know whatever happens, this movie will be great because peter Jackson has done a fantastic job with the LotR movies and will continue with these

He gets carried away a little with it. Pretty much every action scene has it. Boromir getting shot wtih arrows, Frodo getting stabbed by the troll. There is even a scene it ROTK where Liv Tyler is reading a book and drops it and of course the book falls in slow motion. It's obvious he gets carried away with alot in the movies and gets a bit self indulgent. I'm not talking George Lucas levels but it would be nice if someone was there to tell him when something isn't a good idea.

I believe you are right. The next movie will be based off of the stories in Tolkiens notes and the appendices of LOTR. Supposedly it will focus heavily on the wizards, all of them, and take place between the movies as they battle the early movements of Sauron. Thats at least what I have read on some of the Tolkien blogs.

Can't find a link (at work so limited on where I can search) but I think the original plan was to have the hobbit in one movie and then a second movie to bridge them to the LOTR. I'm pretty sure they backed off that though and this will just be the hobbit spread over two films with a few add-ins here and there to connect them plus other non book material that Jackson throws in like in the LOTR (I am sure there will be some kind of romance in this even though there certainly is none in the hobbit). I think when they got into writing them with GDT they realized that it would be rushed to put it into one film.

Legolas' dad was in the Hobbit as a supporting character. So not much of a stretch to work Legolas in. Elrond was in the Hobbit. I don't remember Galadriel, but being immortal she was obviously alive. Personally, I don't think it hurts the credibility of the movie...

When Guillermo Del Toro was over the project, he indicated the story must be drawn from only what is mentioned in The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, as they do not have the rights to The Silmarillion and Unfinished Tales.

Well I don't know how I feel about that. Have you read the books? I would absolutly love if they did a prequel based off of the Simirillon. That would be absolutly awesome!! Don't think it would ever happen though.

I wonder where the cutoff point is going to be. Since they are making two.

I liked the Hobbit better than the Lord of the Rings so I can't wait for this movie.

I was thinking either right after Bilbo escapes from Smeagle and the tunnels or right after the group reaches Lake-town.

Haven't read the Silmarillon but I have read The Hobbit and LOTR. Hobbit is my favorite so I have high expectations for this. Hopefully PJ comes through again (I'm sure he will) and it lives up to the hype.

I would think it has to be one of those and probably the first one. I expect it will be after he meets back up with them and leaves quite the favorable impression.

This is a quote from GDT, obviously things could have changed with him leaving the project and I think this might have been said before they were sure if they would just go with the Hobbit or try to use extra material. I figure the two breaking points are the ones you mentioned with the first one being if they did just the hobbit and the second one being if they extended the story through the other materials, although it could have possibly broken after Smaug if they had gone with extra material but I think that is definitely too far along with just the Hobbit material.

"I promise to give you news-
-Whatever news I have in the next couple of weeks as we learn them. We have talked about what characters MUST return since they are explicitly demanded by the book and we have talked about which ones would be great to have if accessing the Apendixed material and the many etc everyone know. This affects two things: Who comes back and how we SPLIT the two chapters. There are TWO possible breaks for the story in the reading of the book. Really, just to point where you can break the two films. Thus, by making a choice we may need a certain piece of casting o another. I know it all sound like a riddle but it is not. It is actually pretty clear to me. The Next 3 weeks are intensive "boot camp" weeks for the script in which Peter, Fran, Phil and myself are locked away a minimum of 12 hours a day with the CARDRS, OUTLINES, CHRONOLOGIES etc and finish sweating off the final spinal column of these puppies. Speculate away!! "

  • Well, it happened on the 4th installment of the Star Wars series. The parallels are interesting.

The Phantom "turns back the clock" to pre-Darth Vader. All the accolades go to Lucas's head, and he went bat-crazy with the CG effects.

The Hobbit "turns back the clock" to a young Frodo, and now Jackson is doing the same thing.

So tell me, am I gonna be pissed when I see it, or will my love or all things LoTR related blind me from it?
