Ohio State will not get Failure to Monitor charge

  • The NCAA has notified Ohio State University that it will not face charges of failing to appropriately monitor its football team as part of a memorabilia-sales scandal that brought down former Coach Jim Tressel.

The NCAA has not uncovered any new, unreported violations during its investigation and agrees with Ohio State that Tressel was the only university official aware of violations by his players and that he failed to report them.

Other than (two redacted player names) and (Ted) Sarniak, there is no indication that Tressel provided or discussed the information he received ... with anyone else, particularly athletics administrators," the NCAA reported in an enforcement staff case summary.

  • It was nice to see Michigan fans crawl out from there hole this offseason, we will gladly put you back into it when football season comes around. Enjoy the next few weeks and days of being trolls, your actions can’t save your teams ass on the field.

Not just michigan fans, every non OSU fan on this board was claiming Ohio State would get hammered. What they failed to realize is that you can't get convicted for murder when you've only been charged with assault.

Ahh I disagree. Remeber USC didnt give Reggie the money and it was never proven or assumed they did... his parents brokered that on the side 200 miles away. They got kicked back to the stone ages.

  • Just remember: just because ESPN says we are going to get slapped back to the leather helmet days doesn't mean it's true. In fact, it's probably not true.

Mark May and all the talking heads...wow you feel dumb, don't you. Don't you...

Michigan fans...you're next in line for being embarrassed. On the field. Like every year.

  • Jim Tressel... OSU hero, legendary cheat.

Let this be a lesson to all compliance departments. Just tell your coaches to not inform them of anything, and the University will be just fine.

    Congrats fellas! cheers

The thing about ESPN is that the analysts don't think for themselves. They're reading off teleprompters. The stories have all been written before they speak a word on national television. Do you think they're going to have a bunch of old college and nfl players try to think of something themselves on live television? Of course not. Why do you think whenever an Ohio State game is talked about Mark May absolutely hates us and Lou (hence my name) loves us? It's two opinions.

"back to get getting F'd" ...very nicely done.

You guys are nowhere near the same level as OSU. Please dont try to pretend you are.

As for the actual topic- OSU in all this: I was always of the belief that OSU will only be punished as far as the NCAA really wanted them to be. Kinda like the Auburn/Cam situation last season. I have a feeling if the investigations were done by outside parties, we wouldnt be seeing the same results. But that's how it goes in the world of NCAA football these days!

  • What now for all the kids OSU is recruiting where the kids are being told of massive bowl bans and schollie losses, doesn't happen without failure to monitor or LOIC and all the coaches that were using that are now egg faced.

That may be true when it comes to debate about the actual games themselves. Recently though, when discussing these allegations, ESPN has either brought on Mark May to offer his lone analysis about how heinous our "violations" were, or they have people debate whether we should get a two year or three year bowl ban. Hardly any personalities have spoken out in Ohio State's defense. I don't believe I turned on college football live once and heard, "Well, I don't think Ohio State is going to be hit that hard." But now they just look foolish.

the NCAA met with the source from the SI story and couldn't grant him confidentiality. Therefore, he wouldn't talk and your players walked.

Not very much partner.. not as far as the football team was concerned. It was all on Reggie and his parents. The only connection to the coaching staff was a 90 second call weeks before to an assistant. There was basically nada.
