Ohio re-rank spurs more change

To be honest, an OSU offer doesn't mean a lot to me. Both teams are going to get elite talent, some may not have offers from the other rival, we're after different players. You're right about players moving up or down, both teams could have prospects that move up or down.

It really should. When the in state school evaluates you for a couple years and does not offer, red flags should go up (see James Jackson as an example from MI).

To make matters worse has offered a TON of kids this year (compared to years past) but not Butt, Conley, Taco, Dukes, McCray (the Legacy).

The 'different needs' theory may have a basis on the offensive side but not on the defensive side.

Jayme Thompson should be a huge red flag for you guys then.

Urban is now offering kids UM did not offer and which frankly would be at the bottom of Michigan's commitment list- Sprinkle, Worley, Thompson.

Don't act like an OSU offer is the be all and end all.

No it really shouldn't. There are plenty of talented kids that each team gets that don't have offers from each school. I'm not sure why that's so hard to understand. We're after different types of players, we view prospects for different positions. The same way that we haven't offered Love, Elliot, Thompson, Barrett, Sprinkle, Baugh, etc. It doesn't make them bad prospects, we just didn't offer. Same with some of our commits.

Lol. Urban has been in his job for less than what 6 months? How has he evaluated these guys for a couple years when he was in Florida a couple of years ago?

Also I'll take Mattison's eye for talent and years of experience over any guy on OSU's staff. His track record for defenses speaks for itself.

And you mention James Jackson, Michigan also waited forever for Hankins how did that work out.

Michigan has good players, deal with it.

  • Steve, what would you say that the chances are that Darian Hicks gets a OSU offer and if he doesn't do you believe MSU is in the drivers seat for him?
    Thanks

How does Anzalone merit his ranking and only having 58 tackles as a junior. Called potential.

I dunno, maybe because he plays too much on offense (Taco doesn't have that problem).

Taco committed on 2/18 with other offers from ND, Nebraska, UCLA, Purdue, Illinois, Iowa, Pitt, Missisippi, Cincinnati, and Syracuse. The man with an eye for defensive talent in East Lansing passed as did tOSU who knew him oh so well after recruiting multiple players from his school the last few years.

On that day Anazalone already had offers from tOSU, Alabama, Florida, ND, MSU, WVU, and Penn St plus most of the scrubs on Taco's list (including you guys). (Add USC, OU, UGA, Stanford, and FSU among others since then)

Even if they are both prospects ranked on potential, only one of them is deemed to have it by the elite schools around the country.

Steve, Taco was not an every down player for his HS last year. How does he merit a 94?

It seems like 24/7 is right were OSU was about a year ago when everyone loved his frame and body but he has yet to display much of anything on the field.

I just know our analysts love his upside and his performance at the LA Nike did nothing to change that.

Really it's Urbs versus Mattison? That guy Fickell has been there a while and was in charge of LBs (among other things) when these offers were NOT going out to them.

Again, tOSU went after other players at the schools of Taco and McCray - so the look was more than a highlight film and a game and they never even merited a camp offer.

I think your HC is the one pushing for OH recruits, even if they are inferior. Eventually the star rankings won't hide it.

EDITED: The thought occurred to me that Hankins is a poor example because you guys saw him when he was sick and a lot of schools missed him when he was healthy during his senior season. Extenuating circumstance, I love those.

I predicted before this class started that Ohio State would be No. 1 in the nation.

However, Michigan is off to such a fantastic start. They'd be tough to pick against at this point.

Both programs will obviously finish with talented classes.

You are so non-combative, I love it. lol

I did not respond to your post, see who I quoted. Geesh.

And if you think offer sheets aren't insightful then you are missing out an a major evaluation factor.

This should be an interesting look on it, how do you see your class finishing out?

I think ours could look like this
    LB-EJ Levenberry 4* 91
    DT- Josh Augusta 4* 92
    WR- Eldridge Massington 4* 92
    DT/DE-Henry Poggi 4* 94
    WR-LaQuon Treadwell 4* 94
    RB-Ty Isaac 4* 95

And we're pushing for Kendall Fuller 4* 96, though I still think he's VT bound

I really wish we had the feature that let's us plug recruits into a class to see where the teams would end up. It is supposed to be installed this recruiting cycle.

Doubtful. Meyer offered Jayme Thompson, Michigan didn't want him. Michigan told Anzalone to save his money not visit.

that would be a good idea. I used to play NCAA Football on XBox (may like '05 or something) and recruiting was perhaps the most fun part of the game for me, haha.

And what was the reaction among many of your fellow fans to the way Anzalone and O'Daniel were handled?

Your HC took guys in OH to whom tOSU did not even extend a 'camp offer' (see Munger, Tribusky, and others). He then told guys that tOSU was out of state chasing, not to visit. That does not sound like a wise recruiting strategy.

  • I love the delusional Ohio fans that think they are going to flip Dymonte Thomas.. Like he has some secret plan to flip at the last minute and stick it to UM.

Ummm. then why the hell would be be recruiting kids like Gedeon, Bosch, Charlton.. etc?

Yeah.. he's gonna help bring in one of the best classes in the country, then leave? Hmm. sorry this kid isn't Clarett, Ohio doesn't suit his character.

Ben Gedeon was offered after being evaluated in person last summer at Michigan's camp. He was the first LB and one of the first players Michigan offered. When McCray committed and it looked like Gedeon looked likely, they declined to let higher ranked guys even visit.

I could care less whether Urban Meyer gave Gedeon a "camp offer" or a "fake offer" or whatever justification you OSU fans want to use- he was at the very top of Michigan's board, period.
