Oklahoma to the Pac 12?

  • I don't think Oklahoma will move until they are forced to move. Even with A&M leaving the Big 12, I bet they find a replacement and then try to add two additional teams.

  • OU and Texas first want to try and make the big 12 a strong 12 team conference. When that fails both teams will join the PAC. It will probably happen soon but could take 2 more years

What's the reasoning behind wanting to join the PAC 12, over say the BiG Ten or the SEC?

In Big 12 country is pretty much a common sentiment that it's only a matter of time before the conference is done?

Not too much has been said publicly but a report from the UT site said both OU and UT don't like the president of the Big10 and they don't like the negative recruiting stereotypes in the SEC.

Most people around here believe that for the Big12 to survive ND would have to join and that's not happening.

It's possible BYU is added to get it back to 10 teams but I don't think 2 more strong teams would join and OU and Texas both want a CCG.

OK, but what is the definition of failure? At what point has the B12 failed?

Dont you find it wrong both OU and Texas are still clinging to beliefs that got this conference to where it is at in the first place? I find this mind boggling and then to criticize our conference on top of it?

  • I hope that they do go to the Pac12 or whatever number it will be by then. That will definitely force OSU to want to go with them if the Pac12 would want them, which I assume they would or would have to as part of a package deal.

If the SEC does go to 14 or 16 teams in the next year or two, I am sure that the BiG will follow suit and the Pac12 will almost have to as well. That could be the end of the Big12.

It would be good for parity amongst the BCS Conferences and would help force a playoff possibly or at least the plus 1 scenario.

Even as an SEC guy, the best thing for all of college football is for there to be 4 or 5 equal conferences. There will be years when some are better than others, but over time it will balance. With the moves the Pac12, SEC, and BiG have made, the Big12, ACC, and Big East are stuck in reverse at the moment. Losing aTm and Colorado may not be huge blows as far as the quality of the Big12 goes, but losing Nebraska definitely is. I feel that if one more team pulls the trigger in the Big12, it is over and the teams like Missouri will go scrambling to get in the first conference they can.

Teams like Texas and OU don't really care what happens as they will be able to have success where ever they go, but the rest of the Big12 teams can't survive in football without a BCS level conference.

    BetterOff

  • Here's an article where the author sites writers from both Texas and Oklahoma. The Texas guy thinks they go to the PAC-12 because Oklahoma will jump and with them Okla St, Texas Tech and Texas will HAVE to follow...and Texas is not to blame...and by October.

The Oklahoma writer tells it like it is, its all because of that damn Texas Network w/ESPN that will do away the Big-12...or as I like to call'em...The Little-10.

Let those that want to go, go and those that are left, reform the Southwestern Conference. Bring in TCU, SMU, Houston, hell even New Mexico.

Are you talking about revenue sharing? In the big12 I don't dissagree with their thinking. OU pulls some of the highest ratings on a week to week basis. Aside from UT, no other big12 school is close. Without OU and UT that conference wouldn't be able to get the TV deals they have now. In the PAC, B1G or SEC that wouldn't be the case.

I don't know that they critisized your conference. I'm was referring to a story on a Texas site. I have no idea if it's accurate. I do know the OU pres has done wonders for OU's academics and is continuing to do so. So that could be a reason why the PAC is maybe more desirable at the moment.
