Ordered an xbox 360 with kinect - what should I know?

  • I completely forgot about this thread, oops. Thanks for the advice. No, I'm not a gamer. Yes, I have kids (well one, and one on the way). Again, espn3 was the impetus to buy it.

    I will never, ever make a joke about the war gamers. I know some of them and know it is serious bizness.

  • Good luck. I bought PS3 about a year ago after going a few years without playing video games. I am terrible at every game I buy. Probably going to try and sell this thing soon

    How old is your kid? He/she will most likely enjoy it. Get a dancing game for kinect, parents and kids seem to really enjoy those.

    Espn3 rules on it, comes in much clearer than a computer and yeah we need it for the first two weeks

    Go to the video tab on the dashboard page and search the apps. I use the ESPN,Netflix, Hulu, and YouTube.

  • If anyone needs any help on xbox live or psn you can send me a friend request and I will help you out and talk you through it. My gamer tag is 'nirvanabama'. I would suggest to OP that you download the ESPN, HBO GO, Netflix, Youtube, and a few of the music radio apps.

    Get a GameFly account and rent games as long as you like for $15/month. Much cheaper in the long run than buying a bunch of games for your kids that will end up on the shelf after 1-2 weeks.
    You can also find 12 month Xbox Live for a lot cheaper than the usual "in store" $60 if you look online.

    This is sage advice, Laura. You'll need that Live membership to get the online stuff, and its $10 a month if you pay monthly.

    Gamefly also a good idea, as kids can get bored easily with games.

  • The dance central games are fun. There is a mma trainer one that is fun. My 11 year old girl likes any of the dancing games. My four year old likes the sports games. He has a sonic one he loves and there is a sesame street one that is really cute. Just make sure you have a lot of space. The kids are better at figuring it out then I am.

    I am worried about the space. Our family room is wide but not deep as far as distance from the tv. We'll have to figure it out. I've seen something called the zoom that we may have to try.
