They have? When?
Your knowledge of Notre Dame football is becoming more suspect.
The longest period the Irish have gone between national championships since 1924, (When they won the first one the school recognizes) is those long dark years between 1949 and 1966. Now my Oregon math may not be up to the exacting standards you are used to, but thats 17 seasons.
The last Notre Dame national championship was in 1988. Thats 23 seasons. Its, by a healthy margin, the longest such stretch in their vaunted history. And I dont think anyone is holding out much hope that the streak ends in 2012.

So now we know that AlwaysMore is wrong about the academic standards.
Now I'm lauging at him describing a timeline of Notre Dame's National Titles. An Oregon fan saying another team has gone a while since a championship!
Seriously?

Those teams have tradition and recent success.
Notre Dame is missing one.
Your program used to great but it isn't anymore and won't be unless Jesus himself comes down and coaches the team.
Get over yourself.

Its bullcrap. Notre Dame takes the exact same athletes as anyone else.
Here is where those academic standards are hurting the Irish.
1-They will not take partial qualifiers. So they wont take any of those borderline kids that are given a scholarship and then allowed to prove that they are able to handle a college workload for a year and then have three years of eligibility.
2-They will not take non qualifiers. This means they will not recruit junior college players. This is critical with the number of coaching changes Notre Dame has gone through, as its easier to build a team using JC players, as they have actual college experience, plus they are usually bigger and better developed.
Are you people under the delusion that Notre Dame applies the same academic standards to their freshman football players as they do their regular incoming freshman?
They DO have tougher standards as I listed above......but their academic low bar for incoming freshman football players is no harder than the NCAA minimum.
And yes...Stanford has those same standards for specific sports programs. The Lopez brothers, the seven foot basketball playing twins from a couple years ago? Both guys, right on the line for qualifying via NCAA standards....yet they got full ride scholarships to Stanford. It was reported on widely in California when they were being recruited, because Fresno State thought they had a chance at them, due to their questionable academics, except Stanford swept in and signed them up.

Completely wrong as usual.
Higher test scores are required at Notre Dame. Players also have to be approved by a board academically before Notre Dame can even offer them a scholarship.
They don't even offer guys that might not meet their standards.
You couldn't be more wrong. Sorry.
They actually do apply the same standard for all students and student/athletes.

Seriously? Are you completely illiterate? The Notre Dame fan claimed that this 20 plus year gap was something that had happened before at Notre Dame. I simply asked him when, since he seemed to think it was not a problem. They have never had a dry spell this long in their football history.
And I already explained exactly how Notre Dame handles academics.
Next time try reading the content, and THEN posting your snarky responses. It goes better that way to furthering the conversation.
