Oregon Without Chip

  • If Chip POTBELLY Kelley bolts to the nfl, how will they do after hes gone????? I think they take a significant step back. As good as they have been lately, they still dont recruit at a high level. Its still Oregon. They dont pull in classes like Texas,SC,Bama. With Chip gone, I think they will be good, but now how they have been. 8-4,9-3 type of years, occasional 10-2 years. Hard to believe they will not skip a beat after a great coach likr CHIP leaves

  • They will hire Petersen, so won't take much of a step back, if at all.

Why? Does the Nike money go with him? If not, they'll be fine.

False on the Petersen front, imo. Hopefully not on the 'wont take a step back' part.

  • I've always heard that the OC they have is all but assured the HC spot.

I've also heard that Chip Kelly already has his bags packed. Every Oregon fan I've talked to have all but admitted this halfway through the season. Supposedly "extremely" interested in the Eagles and Browns jobs.

  • Probably just be good like they were in the 2000's.

Will lightning strike twice? It's hard to keep up that level of play without elite recruiting in the box.

This is correct from most of the rumors we've heard. I'd personally rather we chase Peterson but that's another topic.

Rumors were that a large part, if not THE reason that chip turned down TB in the 11th hour is that our AD wouldn't promise Chip's personal succession plan would happen. Chip wanted Helfrich to be promoted and all coaches to keep their jobs to preserve the coaching continuity, although the DL coach (who chip brought in personally) would leave with Chip.

Now it seems the AD after seeing Helf for another year is in agreement with that plan, hence why everyone, including Oregon fans now, think Chip will leave.

Take this fwiw. Here-say and rumors from multiple sources close to Oregon.

We have the longest tenured coaching staff and Chip wants that to remain.

I don't think the recruiting would hurt as much with the loss of Kelly as most would think. I would be worried about what kind of sanctions is going to do to them rather than the loss of good ole Chip. I have a feeling Oregon is going to get spanked after the NCAA denied whatever it was they were trying to do a couple of weeks ago.

We may struggle a bit but that's something to expect when you lose a guy like chip. With our success over the last 5 plus years i think are recruiting will remain the same, we seem to have built a good foundation. CK is a pretty blunt type of guy which may even hurt us on some recruits IMO. About everyone saying Peterson becoming our HC, i really doubt that. The word out here is our OC Mark Helfrich would be promoted if CK left. Which holds water with me cause the ducks do like to promote from with in.
