Over signing rule ?

What research needs to be gone? Holes were found... that's all there is to it... there NO WAY someone should be able to sign 34 people in 1 class..... that's damn near 1/2 your team!

I personally dont have an issue with it... do I think its unfair? yes, but lots of things are unfair in life. so screw it! Things will eventually work itself out (whether other conf raise the limit or whatever the case is).

I know if I was in the SEC, I would do the EXACT same thing.... work EVERY advantage you can get! That's why they are the best, as much as I hate to say it.

Dude its not that hard to realize. If a team dont have 85 kids on scholly, and didnt sign a full class the year before. They can sign more than 25 so long as some of the kids are EEs and will rollback to the previous class(numbers wise), you people are so dumb you act like A&M is gunna sign 34 kids EVERY year. Gets your facts straight. You are just jealious, the top recruits are flocking to the SEC are you cant stand it. Just admit it

Lots of silly posts on this thread, but this one takes the cake! Well done, sir.

no i have a realistic view. you sign a LOI for free schooling based on your ability to play football. that is the only reason a player gets a football scholarship. if the player isn't up to par a year later....drop him. He is free to go about any of the other means regular nonathletic students use to obtain free schooling. by being dropped from an athletic scholarship, the player isn't sentenced to never graduating.

The whole notion that by being good at football in high school should somehow give a kid the right to an entire 4 year degree for free is stupid. this isn't kindergarten where every gets a pass.

Like I said, you have an SEC mentality.

Ok, so how about this... they have 88 kids on the roster, 17 seniors/graduated, and 34 commits, so what does that equal? 105.... so they have to cut 20 people (not counting the juniors who go pro, and potential drop outs/transfer)

LIKE I SAID, I'm not hating on them... they FOUND A LOOP HOLE! and I would do the exact same thing if I was them.

So there's nothing wrong to you to accept 50 verbals but on LOI day only sending out 25 and telling the other 25 kids at that point to fvck off?

    No ethical problems involved there?

I have no problem with it. This isn't confidential information. The recruit can come here for free and look at how many commits a team has. If the team has 49, and you are number 50, then on signing day they tell you sorry, you gonna blame the school because you were a complete dumbass?

  • Oversigning is not just a SEC issue. The people who continue to try make it only a SEC issue are just jealous. Those people dont really deserve any

I have looked up some old recruiting classes over the last decade and there are plenty of Big 12 teams, Pac 12 teams, and ACC teams who have oversigned during that time. However, nobody makes a big deal out of what those conferences do because they simply arent as successful as the SEC

It looks like it's mostly a Southern thing

Players Signed 2008-2012 (The last 5 Years)
    ----------------------------------------------------------
Alabama 146/139 depending on the source
    Ole Miss 142
    Arkansas 139
    Auburn 134
    South Carolina 132
    Oklahoma St 132
    Miss State 130
    Florida St 126
    Kentucky 126
    Louisville 125
    Kansas St 124
    Washington 124
    LSU 123
    North Carolina 121
    =================
Above 120 is quite a bit for 5 years considering that an avg of 21 puts you at 84 over 4 years,
so over 5 years it would put you at 105 players (Add in the the usual attrition of a few each year
and teams that stayed under 120 probably didn't over sign much)

    Arizona St 120
    Michigan 118
    Arizona 118
    Texas A&M 117
    Tennessee 116
    Oklahoma 116
    Oregon 116
    UCLA 116
    Ohio St 113
    Clemson 110
    Oregon St 110
    Georgia 108
    Missouri 108
    Florida 107
    Notre Dame 104
    Stanford 103
    USC 101
Texas (somewhere around the 100-110 range but I don't have their numbers right now)

    2010: (Signed 26)
Failed to Qual (3) - Belue, Dial, A. Hill
Transfers (4) - Carswell (suspended then transferred), C. Grant, Malone(suspended then transferred), P, Sims (Transferred to UVA)

    2012: (Signed 26)

Out of the 103 signed, 25 are no longer on the team bringing the total to 78.

We have seven guys that are fifth year SR's from the '08 class, bringing our total to 85.

The tears on this board are so sweet.

Define "suspended then transferred", "other", and "did not qualify"

The guys I mentioned above as "suspended then transferred" were constantly getting in trouble. They would be suspended for a day or two, then back with the team. A week or two later, they were suspended once again. Saban gives the players a multiple chances to right their wrong's. In quite a few cases players have got out of his doghouse, but the one's I mentioned kept getting in trouble.

As far as "other", I elaborated on that one. Williams went on to play baseball.

If you don't know what DNQ means, then you don't belong on a recruiting message board. The guy never made it to campus due to grades.

The numbers dont reflect the numbers of players who actually got into school. Auburn had 22 players admitted in 2009, 21 in 2009, 30 players in 2010, 24 players in 2011, and 18 players in 2012. Four or five of the 30 players admitted in 2010 were jucos, so they only had two years of eligibility to start with. However, we wouldnt want actually facts to get in the way of your idiotic rants

Auburn actually had around 115 players make it in to school during that time. This would be less than Michigan, Oregon, UCLA ,Oklahoma, and a bunch of other schools on that list assuming all their recruits made it into school

Yes, that's the point! The Big Ten schools don't sign 10 players that are questionable academically knowing that most will not make it. But hey, if one does, that low-three star kid who didn't even get on the field yet to prove himself and GTFO. What, he already moved into his dorm? Too bad! SEC baby!

I don't think kids with bad grades make it on campus. I'm pretty sure they know ahead of time whether or not they have to go JUCO.

Big 10 schools just cover up little boys being raped in the shower. Of course, this isnt as bad as signing kids who are borderline academically lol

Do you know how I know I won an argument? When the person I am arguing with has to pull out a Sandusky reference.

  • Yet Michigan signed 118 kids during this time, which is 33 kids over the 85 scholarship limit. Ohio State signed 113 kids during this time, which is 28 kids over the 85 scholarship limit. What happened to all of those extra kids?

Like this entire thread isnt basically a flame. You have a few idiots ranting on about the SEC oversigning, but they just ignore how teams in their own conference do the same thing Big 10 fans want to get on their soapbox about not oversigning. How dare me pointing out they do things a lot worse
