    Or did you guys want to Randomly select the Families? I pray no one had 2 of their kids gunned down, if so, they would be on the top of the list.

    I think the families with the most hardship would be the best options.

It may be easier to write some sort of check, and mail it to the families. That way it goes straight to their mailbox. Put it in a Hallmark card

    Setup a Paypal, get the 5 or however many we end up helping, get in contact with them or setup a way to pay directly from Paypal to them.

    Just brainstorming here though.

    Should be easy with all the posters on here. I'm in for at least 300. There are a few others that have said they will put in a good amount as well, a couple that said they will put up to 1k. You put us along with 10 or 20 bucks here and there and I think 247 could honestly put up a big pot for these families.

    I also agree with MM. We shouldn't be expected to go crazy and save everyone. Just do our little part. Hopefully there are other people on boards doing the same thing that we are at this point. Every little bit helps but we can't avoid our own bills.

  • That is why I think it may be best to do it by mail. Get the donations into the pot, I believe there is some sort of paypal checks you can print out. You can get the addresses of the families fairly easy. Give them some time to grieve, lets have our donation period, and then mail them. They open up their mailbox, open up a Hallmark card and there is the 247sports donation. They don't get bothered, Don't have to contact anyone... Just mail it.

    Again, just an idea. I'm down for whatever, as I'm not going to be the pot holder.

    Yeah that sounds good.. We're just going to Brainstorm for most of tomorrow when we can get some fresh minds in this thread. Give it another day to figure out what we want to do but so far, this is a great idea.

  • I'll be anxious to wake up in the morning to any other ideas. A lot of different ways to do it. Some easier than others. I just hope the turnout is good. I know its close to Christmas time, and people have their own bills/problems, but hopefully its a good turnout. I say we finalize the plan tomorrow, post the plan on the team sites on Sunday, and then start the donation period Sunday evening. The donation period can go on for however long we like, so its not like we are rushing anything.

    I'm going to sleep fellas. Let's just make sure that we stay on top of this and get it all figured out how we want to do it sooner than later. I agree with others that we need to give it a few days and let the families grieve, but that gives us all a chance to nail this process down.

It makes me proud to be part of a board like this that will step in and help these people out in whatever way we can.

  • The saddest thing I saw out of all of this was an interview of a girl who went to the school. The way she was talking you could tell she wasn't old enough to grasp what hat happened. Hopefully enough of them are too young for this to have a serious impact on their childhoods.

    I was up all night, so I thought about some stuff. I think the best way to contact the families is through local churches. I know we don't all agree on religion, but I think most can agree on the honesty of local churches.

  • I think it may be best to let things settle down for a bit for a couple days. They will be overwhelmed with support. We can get the paypal account setup and donations going while we settle how and when we will hand off our donation.

    United Way is a great organization, but I think Stoobie is right, and dealing directly with the families is best if possible.

    This is just me, but I would say we should hold off until a verified fund for the victims' families is established. Just like every major tragedy, there will be some scumbag trying to profit by setting up fake charities in the victims' names and stealing all the donations. The sentiment will still be there if we wait for a verified charity to be set up.

    This^ and I'm in. Will have to wait till I get paid on Thursday but will chip in a little. Wish I could throw down a G but got some serious out of pocket medical bills breaking the bank acct but will add what I can. Well done lesticals

    We are giving it time and not sending it tomorrow or anything. Call me crazy, but I don't see a family getting pissed about receiving a few grand from a group that says they are sorry for their situation.
