Why does that matter? Wouldn't it be better to help some, than none?

Of course; I was just stating my opinion that if you can't do the same amount for everyone, my preference would be to contribute toward a fund that would benefit the entire group of victims.

I think the only problem with that was not knowing where the money would actually go. I have no problem with United Way though.

You just can't leave well enough alone can you? This isn't about you.

I know you have a problem with me and don't like me as a poster (probably as a person as well), but why resort to name-calling when I was just stating my opinion in this thread (brainstorming, as some would call it)? I'm a witch because, in my opinion, I think donations would be better spent in some other outlet?

No, because you want to use assumed socioeconomic status as a reason not to donate to a grieving family. Even if they are rich, 1k can be used to help with some expenses, and it's the kind gesture that matters the most. You're right though, I do t like you.

Among other reasons; one being that it's not like a natural disaster where money can be used to replace something, and another one being that perhaps grieving families might not want money donated to them to go toward funeral costs, etc., of the death of a child. Like I said, the intentions of tBB are there, and it's great that people want to help. IMO, there are other paths of how to help to consider.

That is much a much better reasoning. I may not agree, but other options should be considered. Memorial funds, scholarships, and other venues exist.

I already stated all of those reasons on the previous page. What's better reasoning?

Because the amount of money a family makes shouldn't disqualify them from receiving donation money.

  • But I mean. Everything I said in the post ITT you agreed with, I said on the previous page. But you still called me a witch. I sort of feel like (and there is nothing wrong with this, everyone has people they don't like [which, you've stated I'm one of those for you]), you sort of glance by my posts and don't really read them, but decide you hate what I say.

No, your first post was condescending and arrogant. Lenticels thought so as well. You assumed the amount the families make, but you don't know. You automatically ruled out giving money.

I didn't think it was either - I certainly didn't want for it to seem that way. But you know what they say about opinions.

  • So, back to the issue at hand. Lesticles, do we need to research some families, or look towards the United Way?

  • Bumpity bump bump. Lesticals, after watching a very informative show last night, and doing some online research last night, I would like to suggest victimsfirst.org. It was established by families of victims of the Aurora, CO shooting. They saw 1st hand how greedy people are during tragic times and money comes flying in and yet most gets "filtered" throughout the process. Other examples being 9/11, Katrina, and as recent as Sandy (1 of the governors publicly stated for people to stop donating cause nothing was reaching the victims). I will be making my donation in honor of the Newtown victims this Friday when I get paid. Just my opinion but would like to see it set up. Would be great to see tBB members rally together in support. If anything, ill start a new thread this evening with the link. Thanks for getting the ball rolling on this

I completely agree with GN though.... Even though the thought is there this isn't a situation you throw money at.:.. Even if the families are dirt poor money won't make it any easier

The money can be up to us, and they aren't going to turn down 1 K. Donating other places, we don't know the percentage that will go to help the families.

If I died in a shooting and you sent my family money they'd throw out the check..... Money won't help you are giving money for a loss that is pricelss

If you're right, the problem is finding an organization that sends 95-100% of the money towards the families.

The United Way of Western Connecticut has established the Sandy Hook School Support Fund. It provides services to both families and the entire community of Newtown.
