  • Most of them won't even remove their badges on this site. There is big time denial on the PSU board.

Message boards don't reflect the student body of a school by any means.

Yes in this case message boards are a little more civilized than the student body

    PSU Candlelight Vigil

On November 11, 2011 thousands of Penn State students gathered on the lawn of Old Main to pay their respect to the victims of child abuse, particularly those involved in the recent allegations against former members of the PSU staff.

  • Give it a break already. A fanbase is very diverse for any team. I think the admin and now think JoePa are immoral and some of the words I would describe them can't be said on this board. They probably don't represent the morals of most of the students. I like to think that a university is bigger than some staff that brought shame upon itself. Their fanbase is very diverse and some are still probably backing JoePa and that is what it is. You can't pigeon hole all of them into saying that though. Honestly I feel a little sad for the PSU alums and outside fans that had nothing to do with this. I'm sure plenty of them are sick to their stomach about this.

Emmert has been saying there could be penalties the entire time and he would wait until the legal process played out. Many are in denial, but there very much could be some stiff penalties. I don't think there's much of a shot at the death penalty though.

  • Sports message boards represent the lunatic fringe. As big as Penn State football is I imagine there is still a ton of alumni who just have interest in football.

Shh... no one wants to see the vigil. PSU fans/students/alumni only care about football and Paterno.

    That video is clearly doctored.

  • Though the reactions seem/are callous, give them time. An honored member of the PSU family, their patriarch, has betrayed them worse than anything imaginable. Its all a disgusting terrible tragedy but it will take time for those that are closest to go through the grieving process:
    1) Shock
    2) Denial
    3) Anger
    4) Depression
    5) Acceptance

Then the offensive (especially to the victims) statue can come down and be replaced perhaps with something to honor the victims.

Yes it is. PSU has suffered enough in the court of public opinion imo. The guilty will be prosecuted & will pay for this. I see no reason for further punishment. Let PSU & it alums, fanbase & supporters make good for the victims first & foremost & the university second.

If they give them extra penalties on top of what should be done it will be like the Treaty of Versailles. The NCAA doesn't really have the right to way in on a legal issue.

Public perception is to kill PSU football and all that fun stuff. Sure go ahead and do that. Let me know what it accomplishes.

As far as what will in all likelihood occur, some sort of self imposed penalties that the NCAA will quickly accept so they can wash their hands from this and move on. IMO,

Nobody will say our school doesn't have plenty of idiots. I think most rational people hope to god nobody gets raped ever again, but apparently some people think otherwise.

It is so disgraceful that so many have turned their backs on a truly great man. JoePa did so much for Penn State. Shame on all of you who are acting this way. Which of you is without some action that is regretful, then you cast your stone first. Joe is still a first class man to me.

The only part I agree with is that Joe did a lot for PSU. That's undeniable, both good and bad. The rest, is a work of opinion, and pretty terrible opinion IYAM. But as I said, there are plenty of idiots at PSU, but the vast majority do not fall in line with the quotes you're posting.
