PSU pays Paterno estate 5.7 million

I don't know what he would sue for, but clearly the school is worried about it as they offered to name the field after Paterno in exchange for the family not suing them (to which the Paterno family said "screw you").

They tried to fire him years ago. Its not like they can say wrongful termination.

Everything they gave him was contractually obligated - and they STILL tried to coerce an agreement out of the Paternos to say they would never sue them. When that didn't work, they said we'll name the stadium after Joe, if you don't agree to sue us. Sue told them to goto hell.

This is pure cowardice from the BOT. They realize they made a huge mistake in scapegoating an innocent man and a living legend, someone who means more to Penn State then these idiots ever realized. Rather than own up and admit they made a mistake, they're desperately trying to cover their mistakes. It's incredible really. I never thought my University was this retarded.

I didn't and still don't know all the ugly details, but the one thing I am sure about is that JoePa wasn't made the scapegoat. He made a poor decision by not esculating the problem above the administration. He even said that he wished he had done more. I think it was absurd that most of the media attention went to him instead of Sandusky. Paterno wasn't the one who molested children, but he did pretty much turn a blind eye and allow Sandusky to continue to hang around the program. So he isn't without blame.

Actually, I think they could. From what we know, Paterno followed both university policy and PA law with how he handled the information he was given about Sandusky. The only other way they could fire him would be for performance reasons, but at the time, the team was 8-1 and in the driver's seat for a bid to the Big Ten championship. shrug
