PTI guys on Clowney

I know what they make off of them. I just don't care. This is college football, an amateur sport. It's not the NFL D-League. Do you really want to go around giving college football players $250,000 contracts? These guys have inflated enough egos as it is.

I don't want contracts either but the current system is basically that. Just one that most won't question because it seems like a fair trade from the outside. College football is a huge business and while it seems like the players are getting a lot it's only a fraction of what they bring in.

But what do you propose? Paying these players actual money? How much would that be in relation to the AD's profit margin? What if the market value of their contracts was determined to be $250,000 a year; do you really think paying them that much is good for CFB?

I don't think they should get paid. I think the current rules are fine. I like the 3 year rule and taking that away would ruin CFB. The players know what they are getting into when they sign. There is no realistic way to pay them without creating all kind if scandal and keeping tabs on it would be a nightmare.
I played D1 FB on scholarship. I and everyone that played knew the deal. Whether they use the opportunity as an NFL tryout and training session or use it to get a degree is up to the player. I agree the players are given a great opportunity. I think it's a pretty fair trade currently. Problem is a high % put all their hopes in the NFL and aren't smart enough to atleast use the degree angle as a back up plan

Stay long enough and graduate for free. That is what they are getting or could get

Wilbon was really suggesting that he sit out. What an idiot.

Todd McShay said that it would be stupid and turn some NFL teams away.

    Thoughts?

They do this to get a rise out of you.
Anyone who actually takes what talking heads on TV and radio have to say into consideration of any kind is an absolute idiot.

Education is a back up plan. It's for those who aren't in the position Clowney is in. He could literally sit out this year, collect his contract, play for 5 years and retire happily with enough money to live happily. Even if he gets hurt he'd have enough.

Education past high school isn't part of the law. Get over it. You are obviously jealous if this kid of something. I agree that your statements are th perfect fit for 99.9 percent of student athletes. Not with the big time prospects though. A man should have the right to make a living using his skills. They don't hold Justin Beiber off the radio until he turn 21... What's so different about a football player?

Jealous? Look at the post above, you clown. I was singing his praises. I wasn't talking about Clowney in that post, I said some go to college to actually get an education. I actually even mentioned those NOT in Clowney's position...Go look at the stats, a lot of these guys go broke for one reason or the other....College education shouldn't be so much of a backup plan as it should be a necessity brought to these guys eyes. So long story short - Pay attention next time and stfu.

    +1.

The guy saying that "education past high school isn't part of the law" , doesn't get it.

It's up to the business to determine what qualifications are required to work there. Some places require a graduate degree for employment. Should all people who feel they are "qualified", yet only have a high school diploma try and sue?

I think all of these guys should have to take a course on fiscal responsibility haha. I played D-2 tennis and they made us take precautionary courses on sports agents and all this crap. First day I raised my hand and proclaimed, I play D-2 tennis, what the hell would a sports agent be doing contacting me? My professor / AD was not impressed with the question....but I mean really....When in the flying hell would I be in the situation where I was approached by an agent roflmao

roflmao dumbest post of the new year by far

The age limit ruined college basketball and did nothing good for the NBA, for every Kobe there is around 20 guys that are broke and out of the league by 23-24 years old

If they allowed kids to enter the NFL out of high school it would be the end of football in this country, cause one of the poor kids would get hurt so badly that all hell would break loose in terms of player safety

You also need to google " Guarantee " and practice spelling it he right way, that way you could at least disguise the fact you are a total moron

It's stories like this that make me your arguement intolerable.

So Vince young went to college and learned what?

    How to throw a party.

Get out if here with your trash. Im sick of you. If that's your goal, congrats. You've succeeded at something. How's it feel?
