What's really ironic though is that he could have raised prices by $1.00 and told people it was to provide healthcare to his employees. People would have applauded him and he would have made a profit to boot.

Support? EBT cards are accepted @ papa johns?

I was a student and pretty sure I was covered by the university. Never really had to use the health services center so it didn't really come up.

I don't think it works like that in college... if it did, I never heard of a university HCP. I was under my parent's coverage.

these companies dont HAVE to do this, theyre choosing to, dont for a second believe it isnt greed motivated.

CEOs answer to the shareholders so yes they have to make money or they get fired.

People who voted for Obama should come meet my family. My wife is fixing to get layed off. We're thrilled with the future decrease of income.!sarcasm

  • I know a few guys who own small businesses. Their contingency plan, thus far, is to make a majority of full time employees part timers. From there, they will access if/when further reductions may be needed.

Honestly, USG should not be reaching into this realm and it sure seems a severely misguided effort to "make healthcare affordable".

You can pay for insurance for a student. To my knowledge there are no universities that pay

The problem is, IMO, that they answer to the stakeholders first and the consumers and employees second. Now, before you start laughing at me and getting up in arms, I think a company should look after their customers and their employees first and foremost and, as a result, their stakeholders will be taken care of. Satisfied customers lead to more buyers and happy employees lead to more productivity, which results in paying off stakeholders. However, I feel when companies go first and foremost to their stakeholders, product quality and working conditions can get lowered in the quest for more profit, and thus only the stakeholders are truly satisfied. Why satisfy only one group when you could all 3?

While I agree that more government intervention into the business sector isn't something I support, something had to be done about the healthcare industry. Health insurance is, for better or worse, a necessity in this country and thus it doesn't have to play by the rules of supply and demand economics. Meaning, people will pay WAY over what their coverage is worth because they NEED the coverage. And companies were "capitalizing" on that and really screwing customers over.

  • status, ill just say this, in a few years youll have all these things and a family youre responsible for and at that time youll understand the importance of being rightfully compensated in wages and benefits for the (mostly over 40 hours no OT paid)work you do.

My responses are coming from having listened to several of my relatives that own/head of businesses that are looking at these cost. They are not encouraging people to hire, I can tell you that.

  • Didn't we all know this was going to happen when extra costs were placed on businesses?

They have to pay more so they either raise prices or cut other costs...or both.

Why are we acting mad/surprised that businesses are doing this? Didn't we see it coming?

Why should people in jobs that require literally no skill deserve health insurance? You get paid and Benefit packages equal to your worth.

  • First and foremost, jobs in the food industry are a dime a dozen, so I doubt any of these folks will have trouble finding full time employment elsewhere. Secondly, 80% of Papa Johns are franchised, so I think it's safe to say that his restaurants are hardly the bread and butter of his business. Third, according to forbes, the .10-14 cent increase more than offsets the "cost" of the ACA. He's well within his right to cut hours and lay folks off, but that's not a requirement of the ACA, that's his choice. It's disingenuous to suggest otherwise.

lol I think liberals actually thought the executives would bite the bullet for these costs. They thought they were "sticking it to the man."

It's not as good as taxing the oil companies because gas prices are too high. That one is a classic.
