The difference is higher education is a bubble, but athletics isn't. I laugh at all these threads where people think so many doors are opened or shut for the rest of their lives based on where they went to school. How big your student loan payment is every month is the key difference.

I agree with that statement. Honestly some schools with the big name academics don't really teach. I chose FSU over princeton because (the money and track team) but also because when you go to a princeton class it's basically on you to learn everything yourself and come to class without being taught anything. its not education its more find out how much you know in my opinion. same with the "public ivys" like UF...its all about research dollars so they don't spend time teaching students. My organic professor sat with me for hours helping me prepare for the mcat. while my friend took the same class at uf and he said the professor rarely showed and let ta's teach the class. academics aren't really something you can rate in my opinion. but hey i go to a party school so what do i know.

Money says we all see you Bama guys having endless conversations about QB recruits next year. McLeod, just like Ely, will not change that. They were recruited for depth and intelligence only with the hope that they are solid in case the stud gets injured. McLeod isn't going to answer any questions the Bama staff nor fans have about depth at the position. Still as a 2nd qb he's a good get. Congrats.

Saw McLeod play in person 13x last season. "Solid" QB but I'm completely miffed that Bama don't even give Josh Dobbs much of a look but offered McLeod. Not knocking McLeod but something is "awry" when the staff doesn't even really consider a kid originally from Alabama that IMO is the much better prospect.
I can only imagine Walton with Tyren Jones and Josh Dobbs at QB...........

So given that Alabama is ranked higher than Auburn in academics nationally, that means an Auburn degree is the equivalent of a Jack State degree? Maybe Southern Union and Auburn are about equal?

Alabama is ranked higher as a business school. Auburn is ranked higher in everything else that actually gets you a job (engineering, architecture, etc.,) and it isn't even close. Bama's engineering school is second tier compared to AU's

Yet Auburn attracts a higher caliber of student judging by their ACT/SAT test scores and high school GPA's and Auburn graduates also make more money according to the stats I have seen. I would take both of those things over some meaningless ranking in a magazine. I also remember when bammer claimed to be the Harvard of the South based on the number of national merit scholars they attracted, but Auburn has even passed them by in that category

And for either school to claim to be the 'Harvard of the South' is idiotic. Both are good schools but we aren't even generally considered better academically than Vandy or UGA- and that's just in our own athletic conference.

i'm not sure who you are or what you do, but it's obvious you have serious insecurity issues, a lot like my 'virginia' friends. yes dear old uva. You would think that folks from schools with such pedigree would act like they've been there before and not be so insecure. Sounds like that degree you've earned from um has helped get you where you'd like to be. My degree from Bama sure hasn't hurt me in the medical field. My grandfather was a dean at UM for several years, so spare me your UM arrogance. I've watched more football games live with Don Canham, and will perry then you've seen on tv. the Bighouse is nice, but hell, ole miss has a louder stadium. Look, i'm a michigan fan, except when they play Bama, but calm down on the arrogance both athletically and academically. The only part of michigan where it would be nice to live (compared to Alabama) is north of saginaw.
