Anyone here got proof that they were trying to protect the football program? Good luck with that.
I'm curious - if Spanier, Curley, and/or Schultz had gone to the police about this and there had been arrest/conviction/whatever back in 2001, how would that have hurt the football program exactly?

this the coverup is horrible but the fact it was done to protect the football program and the football COACHS reputation is what makes it shady and an area that could open it up for investigation depending on how deep it runs

Considering that Paterno was not charged with a crime and there is probably a contractual agreement with the hospital to have his name on the wing that his donation helped build, I don't think that you are making a good comparison at all.

Sandusky was really good friend with the guys involved in the cover-up, they were protecting their friend. It really was not done to protect the football program because like psubills said earlier, if they went to the police and made sure Sandusky was arrested on the spot how exactly would that have hurt the football program?

Protecting a friend is the spin I keep hearing... I am all for rules of the hood about snitching but I don't have any friends I'd willing to ruin a/multiple careers for. Maybe under certain circumstances I would hesitate but when it comes to kids, c'mon, protecting a friend loses all credibility. Even prison rules have better standards.
