Welcome to the world man, money runs everything.

Paterno did not get things named after him just based on money though, the guy did do some pretty great things for the university.

Maybe so, but all that doesn't matter when he allowed these horrific things to happen.

  • no you are delusional, about the subject. We may be slightly misinformed but if you honestly believe that the coverup was not done to protect the almighty football program then you may be mentally handicapped. Since there can be no documented proof other than the number of people involved. IF proof came to light it would become an NCAA issue. Until then it is one of those we know who done it but can't prove it situations.

That's hilarious, I wish I had seen that. That happened on the Okalahoma State rivals board.

Is a cover up all the way from the coaches through the athletic program up to the board for the sake of protecting the football program not exactly what lack of institutional control is?

No, it's not. Lack of institutional control has always meant broad failure to comply with NCAA rules. There have been situations in the past in which drug rings have been operated on college campuses and the NCAA hasn't become involved beyond the point players have tested positive for banned substances. Or what if we were talking about Sandusky/Spanier/Curley embezzling funds fron the PSU athletic department. Would everyone be calling for the NCAA to get involved with that? Last year, Fiesta Bowl executives were busted for widespread campaign finance law violations and massive misuse of funds extending back years. You know what the NCAA did? It renewed their bowl license. The NCAA is a joke. The last thing we need is for them to start selectively enforcing the law whenever it makes good PR to do so. They can't even effectively enforce their own rules as it is.

its in one of the other Paterno threads. I posted that I went to USC (east) for a couple years and would be at sharkys when I was in town and the guy went nuts and was like I'll meet you there to kick your ass. Hilarious. Not sure if it was JeffUSC but it was definitely someone with USC in their name. Total pyscho..

You should have trolled him. You could have shown up at Sharky's and told him you were someone else there.

You still haven't answered my question. If they just were worried about the football program why not just turn Sandusky in to the police in 2001? How would turning him in have hurt the football program? They hurt the program more by covering it up.

Ask yourself one thing. How would it be protecting the football program if Sandusky was arrested in 2001? He wasn't a coach anymore so there would be no issue in terms of losing a top flight assistant.

People love to say "this was all about protecting football!!!" but then when you ask what specifically would PSU have lost if Sandusky was arrested, they go silent.

  • REPUTATION for having a child molester on staff. To me Joe Paterno and the school thought they would never need to turn him in because it would never get as far as it did. We shall see, but to think it had NOTHING to do with football is crazy. I am sure there were other factors but football is/was the driver.

No, you would have had this whole thing hit the streets like it did

You thought you could cover it up and it would never be found out

He didn't have to spend his money on helping the university, but he did I think that counts for something. He also helped raise what some say was almost a billion dollars for the university and funded scholarship programs and things like that.

The man did wrong in how he handled the Sandusky situation, but you can't deny he did many good things for PSU.

He wasn't on staff when Joe found out though, so how could PSU really be blamed?

They did more harm by trying to cover it up than ever would have come from them just turning him in when they found out.

The whole backlash is that PSU covered it up, if they told the police and had Sandusky locked up in 2001 no one would have much to say about PSU.

He wasn't on staff cause you forced him to retire after the first story broke in 99'

Oh please, they could have easily overcome an ex-coach being a pedo, especially if they turned him in. Nothing would have happened to the football program.

Yea because Joe and him didn't get along. He wanted to be the next head coach and Joe wasn't leaving so he told him he'd have no chance of being the next head coach.

That's an assumption but let's just say that is true. The police and DA knew about that case and did nothing. So PSU "forces out" a man that was accused of something in 98 but never got arrested for it. Now 2001 rolls around and they turn him in. How exactly is PSU at fault in that scenario?
