Anyone here when they plan on releasing the Schultz emails, I'm assuming that they'll be admissable for this trial

I'm not so sure that they will be used in this trial. I would think they would be much more useful in the Curley and Schultz trials (and Spanier as well if/when he is charged).

Paterno continued to allow Sandusky to be around. That may not be enough for you, but as a mom of a 12 year old, that's enough for me and it's probably enough for most reasonable people.

That's where you and many others are wrong. Spanier and the BOT held the power to restrict Sandusky, not Paterno. He had no control over Sandusky's use of PSU facilities. Many people assumed that Paterno ran the school, but that is far from the truth, especially after the 80's.

Not at all. I think it would make the nation happy to hear that Sandusky is getting nailed (in jail).

Everyone has been saying paterno was the most powerful man at penn state, now this comes out and everyone's opinion changes? I don't get that

I just can't buy this, I've heard it half a dozen times. I guarantee you that if JoePa threw a fit, he could have restricted Sandusky's access to whatever he wanted. Joe had to have carried enough weight.

The truth lies somewhere in the middle. Nobody will ever know where though.

"Everyone" as in whom? The only thing Paterno had power in was keeping his job (since he brought in a ton of money to the university). Spanier has been in control since the mid to late 90's.

Maybe he could have, but you have the university president saying that it would be "humane" to not report the incident to authorities. You had the university president having Sandusky as a guest in his luxury box regularly at football games. I think it is safe to assume that Spanier and Sandusky were friends. No one knows if Joe made a complaint or not, but I don't think it is a guarantee that anything would be done.

Yeah, it honestly would've been a PR disaster to have JoePa pissed off at the university, I can't imagine he didn't have enough power to restrict Sandusky's access.

People can defend JoePa all they want, but he's got his share of the blame to bear.

Very strange, yes. Pertinent to this case, hardly. Way too much speculation for it to even be mentioned. He disappeared close to a decade after not pressing charges.

Yes, he does. He was unfairly made the focal point (that's the nature of the media with him being the big name, however), yet he is also unfairly given a pass by some PSU fans as well.

I agree that he was somewhat unfairly thrust into the spotlight, but stuff like the riots after he was fired are just...absurd.

  • The link would be almost impossible to prove so here goes...

Gricar was persuaded by let's say the mob to not file charges against JS in 1998. In 2005 he disappeared because of his knowledge. Classic mob hit.

    I bet McQueary has information

    This.

He had a responsibility to stand up to any and all others if that's what it took to keep that animal away from children. He knew and he did NOTHING. I hate assuming anything about the man because a year ago I had ultimate respect for him, but if he did so little on this occasion I am left to assume that probably wasn't the first time Sandusky's activities were brought to his attention. That sickens me further and I didn't even believe that was possible.

Even if you set all university activities aside, he had a responsibility as a freaking human being to notify someone at Sandusky's charity as well. Good people don't learn this kind of thing and just sit there silent. Paterno took it a step further and tried to brush it off like McQueary was vague or some crap when he wasn't vague. Again, it's sickening and if you're not disgusted then something isn't right.

Be a little fair to the students. There were about 2000 kids rioting out of around 45k students. Two nights later they had over 10k at a candlelight vigil for the victims. That second part always seems to be forgotten.

He did go to his superiors and tell them all of this. While I do agree he should have done more, you're wrong about what all parties actually agree happened.

McQueary himself said that he was vague with Paterno in both his GJ statement and also today at the hearing. So Paterno knew that something happened. Was Jerry having sex with the boy? Was he just up close to the kid? He didn't know because he wasn't there. Jerry wasn't his employee. So what did he do? He took it to his superiors who said they would handle it. He talked with McQueary to see if he was satisfied with that course of action.

Later he finds out that nothing will ultimately be done. Now what would you like him to do? Go to the media and raise hell? What if Jerry didn't do anything? What if McQueary was wrong? What if McQueary was lying? Can you say defamation?

It's easy to just say "Oh, he should have just gone to the media!!!!", but he didn't witness anything.
