Penn State wants to leave the B1G

The only thing I see is a bunch of Big Ten fans putting down one of their member institutions and their fans. That what this thread is really about. Undervaluing PSU and throwing hate our way. It's just indicative of the general view by many of PSU in this conference. That you cannot deny.

I assure you that this thread was a about a few of us took a look at your board and took a bigblank. Up until 6 months ago I didn't have a bad thing to say about PSU. You'll have added to the conference(though not in the way I envisioned when you joined). I to a point understand the process yall went through with Sandusky, though obviously some of your fanbase is still delusional and in love with Paterno. But this the B1G is out to get us, we're second class citizens thing is way crazy. No offense, but when you think B1G football you think OSU and UM. You guys are a legendary program, but when you think B1G it's not PSU that comes to mind. That's never going to change. I'm sure you'll knew this when you decided to join, so not sure what you're upset about.

    I'm talking about sandusky.

I have no clue about the vote and don't care. Again your proving my point. You have a chip in your shoulder that weighs 10 tons about The Big Ten and you just don't see it.

I think I am being exceptionally reasonable, I think you see The Big Ten as ABSOLUTELY against penn state. Just like you say the psu-pitt game was ABSOLUTELY the more bitter rivalry.

In my opinion when people talk in absolutes they really aren't listening to any other side of an issue. I try to never speak in absolutes. I think absolutes are for children and imbeciles. I'm neither, so I think we are probably done.

As I have said, this is all pre-Sandusky. Anyone who doesn't want PSU in the Big Ten because of Jerry Sandusky and half a dozen men who are no longer associated with the university is irrational, plain and simple. It's not even worth discussing.

And I did not say that the Big Ten was "ABSOLUTELY against" PSU. However, many things point to a bias against us. And as I said before, this thread highlights that.

You are angry because PSU fans are less than thrilled about how we have been treated in the Big Ten. You are OSU, so it is not surprising that you take offense to this. Just like Texas was surprised that Nebraska wanted to get the hell out of the Big XII. It's because you are catered to. Again, look no further than how Delany lobbied for you to the NCAA. What other school would get that from the commish??? Maybe Michigan. No one else.

And there is the pompous attitude that we are talking about. Right there. And unfortunately, that is the attitude that the league has as well. It truly is UM, OSU and then everyone else. Not by success either... if that were the case, PSU's athletics department would be lauded for it's overall dominating success (as I have detailed earlier in this thread) and superb graduation rates.

It is what it is. If we aren't appreciated, then I would at least like to play in a conference with local rivals. Maybe it sounds crazy to you guys in the B1G, but an ACC slate is more appealing to me.

Based on your posts I assume you are old enough to remember when you'll joined. At that time did you think that PSU was going to be the face of the B1G? When you came I for one was jacked. Over the last 18 years you haven't been the national power you were the 18 before, but you'll have been solid contributers with a few nice years. You are a fine academic institution. A good addition to the conference overall. Just not sure why you got your panties in a wad. Should just chill out, we may be pompous but there isn't some conspiracy to screw you.

    4 points...

1- I don't want psu out of the Big Ten... At all. I think psu is good for The Big Ten. You (your Internet fan base) are the ones that say they want out of the Big Ten because of a bias.

I can understand why you think there is a bias. But I also think that the psu Internet fan base is biased against The Big Ten.

2- I'm not angry... I'm baffled. Baffled that the psu internet fan base has such anger towards the schools of our conference.

3- Nebraska wanted out because texas got a larger share of revenue. psu gets the exact same share as every other team.

4- on the "lobbied for Ohio State" issue... Again you are stating your OPINION. You have no data to prove that if psu was on the same situation as Ohio State the conference would have done the same. In my OPINION I think they would have lobbied for psu.

You have a real problem distinguishing between fact and opinion.

Sure I remember, and no, I wasn't expecting PSU to be the face of the Big Ten. But I didn't expect to constantly hear about the want for contraction from Big Ten people up until Nebraska joined to make 12 teams. I didn't expect fans of other schools to remind us how "we were supposed to dominate" the Big Ten in a mocking way. And I certainly didn't expect our value to the league to be questioned.

To deny that any of those things have been going on is either ignorant or just plain wrong. And they all contribute to us never feeling welcomed in this league.

    1) You may not want PSU out, but a large amount of people do and have since we have joined. Maybe you don't notice it because it doesn't pertain to you, but it is there.

    2) First off, we aren't angry at schools. We are upset that there is a level of nonacceptance with PSU in the Big Ten community.

    3) It wasn't just about money. The Big XII catered to Texas in things other than money.

    4) Well, he sure as hell didn't do us any favors with Sandusky. He could have lobbied to NCAA for reduced sanctions, he could have demanded that the NCAA clearly state exactly what the limitations of the sanctions were (we still do not know all the details of some of the transfer rules... the NCAA is dragging it's feet).. He also could have not fined us. There are a bunch of things that Delany could have done to help lessen the impact of the sanctions/fines on one of the B1G's member institutions, but he didn't.

My three brothers and my dad could not stop talking about how awesome it would be to get out of the B10. I remember joining the B10, I was 15, everyone one was pissed. We lost our Pitt and ND games, B10 is played out for me, thats my OPINION!!!!

Can't you at least admit that maybe, just maybe psu fans have a chip on their shoulder about The Big Ten and maybe if you didn't cut on the conference and count votes and make opinions into facts that you wouldn't have so much anger towards the conference and everyone would be more accepting.

Again, it's a 2 way street. Maybe psu needs to meet the rest of the conference half way. Just my OPINION.

I for one never saw contraction talks. The only teams I've even joked about contracting are NW and MInn. You'll have a complex IMO. PSU is one of the big boys in our conference, and if you don't realize that I can't help you.

You are talking to a different person here. I have no bias against the Big Ten. I was excited to go in it and am VERY excited for the hockey league next year. There are a lot of great things about the Big Ten, but be honest... we are the redheaded step child. At this point, I would prefer the ACC. That's not going to happen because of $$$$, but purely from a fan perspective, I would like it more.

Why do you have a problem with this? I live in the Philly area, not too many people give a crap about the B10. Without PSU, B10 would not exist around here. If it is not about PSU, then its all SEC or ACC. thats my OPINION.

I have NO problem with psu thinking they fit better in the acc. I wouldn't begin to presume what is right or wrong for penn state.

What I have a problem with is the misplaced anger towards The Big Ten.

"The Big Ten is a bullshit conference"

"The Big Ten is fixing games against us"

"The Big Ten voters (actually media voters who have no affiliation with the conference) didn't vote us #1"

"The Big Ten is worse then sandusky"

Like the acc, like the sec, heck...like the mountain west. That part doesn't matter.

My question is why do you (not technically you, but you meaning psu Internet fan)... Why do they have to hate The Big Ten and have (in my opinion) an uncalled for bias against the conference in order to like the acc or another conference?

    You're correct... my bad.

Listen...here's my bottom -line, and I doubt you will agree with me.

I can see some of your points. But I think in every relationship, weather it is between 2 people, 2 schools of 12 schools, there is a give and take.

I think that psu fans (in general) have uncalled for animosity towards the conference. I think they are taking the anger out from the sandusky situation on the wrong people/organizations. I think they are hanging on to 20 year old membership votes and votes from people who have no say and fueling their hate.

Hate breads hate. If you hate something because of 1 thing (not everyone voted for us to be a member) then it is much easier to cultivate more hate for lesser or made-up reasons.

I fully admit that penn state, the other member schools and the conference should have a mutualistic relationship that is cultivated over time. But in order to have that evolutionary relationship it takes all sides working together. I'm not so sure the general psu fan/alum are doing their part.

It's like a self-fulfilling prophecy. You keep thinking how much you are "the red-headed stepchild" so therefore you become the red-headed step child.

In my opinion. If what happened at psu, instead happened at Ohio State. I think the conference would have blasted Ohio State 10x worse then what they did to penn state. Not the ncaa, but The Big Ten.

    Now...go ahead, call me crazy.

  • I want to make another point on your map you pulled up with the ap voters. You (and many others) claim that you did not get support from The Big ten (I still don't understand that) because the media members in the Big ten markets didn't vote for psu. It is obviously a big deal to you because you hung onto that map. I don't think I have ever looked at that map.

But let's loook at that deeper. Your map looks like Ohio had 4 voters. 2 in the cleveland are, 1 in toledo and 1 in cincinnati. None in Dayton or Columbus (probably the 2 highest % Ohio State/Big ten fans are in Dayton and Columbus)

The cincinnati market has a very large bias against the Big Ten and Ohio State. How do you know the cincinnati guy wasn't voting against penn state because they were in the same conference as the hated Buckeyes? In all honesty that is much more plausiable than it was a Big ten guy that didn't like psu in the conference. So really it was a vote against Ohio State. Pretty much the exact opposite of what you thought. I know the cincy market very well, I would put that at the top of the list.

See how that works...and that is just one market I know well. Toledo and Cleveland could be the same as other states.

Also we're mostly just tired of the "whoa is us" "poor us" " no one likes us so let's leave the big mean conference" rhetoric that your brethren spew ad nauseum. Ohio State fans didn't bring it up 1 time while the world laughed and carried on at our expense. USC didn't whine that the PAC 12 conference hated them even though they laughed at Larry Scott for not being out in front more.

No "poor us" and no "whoa is us". Most PSU fans are east coast based, I live in the philly area. Most college sports fans are PSU fans around here, and I haven't talked to one person who wants to be in the B10. Face it OSU, B10 is your conference, we know that, but it has gone soft. ACC is a better fit for us, I don't wanna leave because of the refs or the "red-headed step child" thing. I wanna leave because the B10 is BORING!! I been to Columbus OH, and god bless you guys, that town is a dump. I don't wanna go to 90% of the B10 towns and the conference has gotten weak. ACC would kick our ass in BB, but it would be awesome to see Duke and coach K in State College. (tarheels too) I could give to shits about Iowa, Minn, Wis, or NW. I think PSU fans would enjoy a change and dicking the B10 and leaving them behind, would be awesome! They did nothing for us, and it is true, B10 brand isn't like it was 20 years ago. The ACC would be a dream come true!!!
