Your front 7 will dominate them. And it looks like PSU's offense is progressing pretty well every week.

Don't know if I agree with the OP (still need to see our defense perform against a mobile QB), but I absolutely love our offensive system. Don't think it's reached its potential, even with McGloin at QB, but I'm excited to see it get better each week.

What's the sign of a good coach? Improving every week...

    Sadly,

It's going to get a lot worse before it gets any better than what you will see this season. I say sad because it's not this coaching staffs or players faults for what happened.

We're at low 70's Schollie players right now with few offensive weapons and a former walk on under center.... We have a top 3 qb coming in I'm not worried at all

Well God bless you because I sure as hell would be if I were a PSU fan.

  • I think PSU does have a legit shot at beating OSU. If you think otherwise you are being a hater imo. They're D is really good & can keep Miller in check.

The offense is pretty young with most of the big guys having multiple years left. The thing that worries me going forward is the depth and development of the lines with less quality players to rely on. Talent evaluation is going to be pivotal the next couple of years. The results this year are also pivotal in showing recruits that PSU is still a good place to play for exposure.

  • What I give PSU credit for most is they have a lot of heart & they are truly playing for pride & their university. They could have quit after the first two losses but they didn't. Good for them.

This is going to be the key. Depth will get worse and worse and with the limited amount of schollies that you have going forward, you are going to need them ALL to be studs to even stay competitive. You also don't have to option that USC had when they were able to protest (can't think of the correct word) the sanctions for a year. In that year they were able to load up with like 32 commits. They are still dealing with the depth issues from it though.

Depth certainly will be an issue. I don't know that we'll be as bad as people say we will. Chalk it up to homerism if you will.

This year we have less than 70 players who came in on scholarship. Almost none of these guys were offered and recruited by O'Brien. Given the way our offense has played with a walk-on (and nearly immobile) QB, I like what can happen during the future. We've got the S&C program that can develop linemen (along with a great DL coach), and WR/DB athletes can be found anywhere.

I like our coaches and think that coaching will be able to win us a few games that talent will not. Will certainly struggle against the top teams, but if the Big Ten stays down for a few years, we could make some noise a la Iowa the past 5-6 years.

I'm worried, but confident in the coaches.

  • I actually really do like O'Brien as a HC. I think outside of his obvious skill as a playcaller, his biggest accomplishment has been keeping the amount of scholly players that he has until this point, and also keeping his team fighting after the first two games. They could have easily folded at that point.

That is not to mention keeping that qb commit up until now. Not to say that he won't jump ship, but I would have thought he would have opened up his recruitment the second he heard the sanctions.

    Really impressed with O'Brien.

Hackenberg isn't going anywhere, he's 100% committed and coming.

I mean when you see what BOB has done with McGloin how could a QB not want to come to PSU. Plus our offensive system is awesome.

Not to be a dick, but maybe because you would want the opportunity to play in at least ONE bowl game in your career. His pedigree does lend itself to being able to say that he can prepare qb's for the NFL though. Of course so did Scott Loeffler at AU and you see how that has worked out. That was a little below the belt because O'Brien has done a great job with McGloin. He seems to get better every week.

Hackenberg will get to play in at least one bowl game and possibly two if he redshirts.
