Penn State will beat Ohio State

  • 330buckeye said...

Nope the only team that can beat us is Michigan...

Should be another great epic battle..

No disrespect PSU I just don't see a non spread team beating us.

    What happened last year?

PSU 20 OSU 14 in Columbus.

  • I think it will be a very good game, probably a lot of back and forth between the offenses.

To me, neither side should be assured of a victory. I'm still wary of our defense against an elite mobile QB like Miller.

But on the other hand, it amuses me when OSU fans simply assume that since we run a pro style O and you guys have done well against pro style O's so far...that you'll shut us down. I don't see it being that easy.

As a sidenote: I keep hearing OSU fans say that (about doing well against pro style offenses). I asked an OSU fan on our board and he never answered - what pro style offenses have you played against? I don't know what your OOC opponents run, so the only one I know from the Big Ten so far is MSU. Who else?

UAB is a prostyle IIRC, and their QB threw for 200 yards against them.

You don't need a play book, run the effing bubble screen every down and you'll do just fine

If you couldn't defend us last year, what makes you think you can this year?

I'm not underestimating the challenge, but I think we can stop your offense more than you can stop ours.

and that is why Purdue choked. Inside OSU territory, third and nine and Hope goes conservative up the middle run gain of two. O'Brien would dial something up to put the game away instead of giving OSU new life. That is why Purdue lost. OSU couldn't stop the bubble screen Purdue threw in there.

LOL ...I'm sure you along with 90% of your fan base haven't watched one single snap of PSU this year based on your blanket comments. All I know, we have a stingy defense and an innovative offense that can move the ball. You are basically West Virginia. Offense with a lousy defense.

I can assure you PSU wins more than one more game.

  • Bear with me folks. I have seen enough Ohio State games this year to make a sound judgement on this version of the Buckeyes-Nittany Lions clash this year.

Ohio State, with Braxton Miller is a handful. Ohio State with Guiton is still a handful, but offense is not Ohio State's issue. The only concern I have regarding the Buckeye's offense is that they rely so much on the big play. Stop the big play (ie: Michigan State/Purdue) and you have a good chance of slowing them down. I think it's safe to say Penn State's defense is far and away the best the Bucks will see either up to this point or after this game.

The issue is with the Buckeye defense, which is the worst defense that I have seen at Ohio State in a LONG time. The LB's are decimated with injuries, and they just can't cover anyone. On top of that they don't tackle. The biggest issue is the DL, which generates NO pressure, which makes the LB's blitz, creating mismatches. Teams are spreading out the Buckeye's and attacking them horizontally, and going no huddle because the defense has little depth due to the injuries....it's just a hot mess in Columbus defensively.

I really like Penn State's chances. Offensively they continue get better each week, and aside from the Ohio game, Penn State should be 6-1.

These 2 teams are in different places. what does Ohio State do here? Do they go for the outscore approach, or the stopping PSU approach? I'm not sure OSU can stop PSU, but the question is, without Miller, can they outscore PSU? No Buckeye fan in their right mind can feel very confident about their defense. This PSU offense isn't a Paterno offense. PSU will go no-huddle, they will attack the weakness of the defense, and they will make OSU defend the entire field. Very difficult to defend. PSU has averaged approximately 95 plays the last 3 games...

It will be a great game. Based on the defenses, I am leaning towards PSU. Being at home, the defense, and how the offense is clicking...the ONLY thing that gives me pause is the Special Teams of PSU, which are nothing short of a disaster.

good points, not sure i agree psu's d is better then msu's tho...so far, msu still has the best d in the big ten....they did not allow um and denard to score a td in the big house and held osu to 17 points....

but u are spot on regarding our d...if psu spreads it out they will be successful and move the ball, our lb's cant get to the edge fast enough...

i would suspect that meyer will insist that fickell and co find a way to get to the qb and defend the perimeter better or it will be a long night...

offensively, if braxton is out osu will run hyde 30 times and have kenny g throw high% passes....i do feel good about urban runnin the o, he is very good at game mgt. and makes good game-time adjustments....

homefield is HUGE for big ten teams at night and psu fans will be rocking....

i still like the bucks (albeit a close one)

last minute td wins this one 24-21

OSU has given up 11 passing TDs this year, but also has a whopping 11INTs. Meanwhile, PSU has passed for 14 TDs while throwing just 2 INTs. If McGloin can exploit the Buckeye secondary, it should be a high scoring affair.

thanx for the info, i was not aware how close psu was to msu, statistically....

i definetly think it will be high scoring (looks like miller is ok and will start)....

i like the way we match up against psu much more then purdue and indiana (we have problems with teams that get fast players in space, via bubble screens etc...)

offensively, the bucks are very solid with hyde and miller (as long as they hang on to the ball), when they dont turn it over, most drives end in points....

defensively, what can i say, a hot friggin mess right now (its truly amazing we are undefeated, but i will take it)...we all keep waiting for that perfect game where the o and d play well and we finish with a strong win....

this season reminds me a lot of our n/c season where our d was great but our o sucked and we barely beat most teams and ironically, purdue on the last play....

oh well, 1 game at a time i guess....

LOL at your defense matching up well with PSU's offense better than Purdue and Indiana. Again, it shows me you haven't watched one single PSU game the last four weeks. If you have watched, you would start to wonder how we are going to cover their tight ends for starters.
