Perfect example of what's wrong with today's government

  • A small 100 employee Company had 35 undocumented workers arrested in Ga today. They were arrested at their homes and will be deported. All of them working in the plant. The company will now in essence have to close its doors until it fills those vacancies which is highly unlikely due to the laziness of those that don't want a job. These undocumented immigrants pay taxes out of their payroll check. 95% of them have been working for this company for 13+ years.

So yeah, that's America. Lets not forget that this country can't maintain it borders and prevent millions of pounds of illegal drugs from crossing the border but it has the money and resources to arrest tax paying people who are just trying to feed their family and provide better who happen to not have citizenship. Thank you Georgia. I feel much safer with these people off the streets.

  • Another interesting tidbit..,.the owner of the company built them a soccer field on company property. I'm friends with the owner and he said almost everynight, after work all of them would go home and grab their kids and meet back up and have what is basically a mini-world cup. I've watched them play, that's guys are kick ass soccer players. Maybe They could teach many Americans a few important things to earn citizenship? Instead of having them explain constitutional amendments on a test, maybe they could teach us

    Family values?
What its like to work 12 hr days?
    Moderation?

Why work for it when they can get it for free? Too many people are content with just getting by on the minimum. They would rather spend their energy bitching about needing more instead of going out and doing what it takes to get more.

  • So we have a company that didnt want to pay a living wage to its employees, so the only people he could hire are illegal aliens? And the government was wrong to end it?

Yeah. That makes a lot of sense.

I feel REAL bad for the factory owner, who was getting rich off of illegal workers. That poor man, having to close his doors because he doesnt want to pay people enough. I can only imagine the health or retirement plan he has set up.

    This.

Hell, now that owner has a magnificent opportunity to be an actual job-creator for American citizens. He may make slightly less profit, but any idiot should be able to see that less profit is better than no profit if the plant shuts down.

Also, I'm going to bring this thread up the next time an anti-immigration thread starts working its way around tBB and people are accusing those "lazy illegals" of not paying any taxes and mooching off the US.

I'd argue that to have 1/3, you're not just turning a blind eye, you're actively hiring illegals.

You know little. These workers were being paid between 10-12 dollars an hour. That's standard in rural county Georgia. Yet I know many Unionized American workers who absolutely love working 3 months and ring laid off the rest of the year so try can collect a check. The Owner treats them very good. Pays them a living wage ( obviously because they have enough to live) and built them a nice soccer field. He takes payroll taxes out of their check so his book stay legal. But guess what? Like many Americans making 10-12 dollars an hour these illegal immigrants can't file earned income credit on their taxes and receive thousands back at the end of the year while paying in virtually nothing. Your pay is what you're worth. In a job where the only skill set is hard work, do you really think an Employer should pay 20 bucks an hour? Benefits? Do you know what that would do to price of goods?

Unless every single one of those employees is single and has no family whatsoever, 10-12 dollars/hour is not a living wage.

It really is embarrassing. In a perfect world. Every American citizen would make a living wage, receive a pension, healthcare, etc. We'd all be able to afford those expensive, American made products. But that country is gone. So lets deport 35 tax paying workers because they weren't fortunate enough to be born in America. Land that was stole from Indians btw. Lets keep the folks that look forward to those unemployment checks that last 6-8 months for that 3 months of Jersey work though.

Thanks for another valid point. Instead of living off assistance, they choose to stay in one home with multiple family members. Another valuable thin they could teach Lazy Americans. Survival.

  • This country has always had a need for cheap immigrant labor and we will continue to need it. Going after illigals who are here to work and are paying taxes is a waste of money

  • I hardly feel bad for the owner of the plant, but I do certainly feel bad for the people trying to earn a living and being deported based on a lack of documented paperwork. You know how job postings typically say something like, "relevant experience can be substituted for education"? I feel like that applies here.

Yeah I didn't make this thread out of pity for the owner. It's the working people who are going to be deported and the other 64 employees who are citizens, who will miss out on money as well right before the Holidays. The operations simply can't run without the workforce and it takes a good amount of time to fill 35 jobs.

So you're saying its the business owners responsibility to pay people more if they have a spouse and children? How about you don't get married and have kids if you can't afford it?

In various cultures, many people live with extended families. It's not unusual for ,multiple generations of families to live together. So if they're living in that type of environment wouldn't they be making a "living wage"?

The term "living wage" is used by liberals to justify government intervention.

People are clueless when it comes to this topic. I'm a 4th generation citrus grower/harvester & these "illegals" are the backbone of our industry. It's ironic to see people complaining about giving work to them yet never in my life have we had a white or black man come try to apply for a job. These guys bust their asses for $350/wk. At the end of the day, who cares if their name really isn't Juan Toribio Sanchez? The government still gets their money, our fruit still gets picked & the workers still make a paycheck. As long as the employee is paying at least minimum wage, how is their an issue? Only one group of people are willing to do that kind of work & it's not the ones on street corners in Detroit or at the local McDonalds in Fatsville, Alabama.
