Perfect example of what's wrong with today's government

    That's a lot easier than citrus but most wouldn't even do that.

    Americans wouldnt pick citrus if it paid 20 bucks an hour with benefits. That kind of hard work with no rewards just doesn't jive with today's culture.

    I feel REAL bad for the factory owner, who was getting rich off of illegal workers. That poor man, having to close his doors because he doesnt want to pay people enough. I can only imagine the health or retirement plan he has set up.

    i am with you. i hope they fine the hell out of owner, it is people like him that what to do away with minimum wage and have people working for 2 $ a day. hey stache did he build them a company store and housing too!

    Idiotic statement. This company pays them a fair wage for what they do. There's many companies that pay decent money to illegals, especially ones that have been there 2-3 years. They also pay overtime rates. The owner doesn't deserve to go to jail. That's why he's never been in trouble in 20 years of business with using immigrants. He has to feel out an I-9 form on each one of them and does. He is completely above board and hides nothing. He has nothing to be ashamed about. Here's another problem. These men's kids are legal citizens because they're born here. So they by law have to leave or parent here. Guess who that is. The mother. Guess who then provides for those families? American taxpayers because the government has forced the bread winner home. Some of you have such a black and white attitude towards everything and are either too young or stupid to see the bigger picture. It costs American taxpayers more to deport them than let them stay and continue working to provide for their children who are citizens.. We have immigration problems but INS needs to use common sense and judgement. It's not hard to find who's here causing continuous problems and the ones trying to make a life. It's pathetic the bubble that surrounds most on this board. It's like you really believe all business owners are evil people and don't care about their workforce.

    Amen. It's as if people believe Americans and Americans only built this land. LOL. We stole this shit from Indians. We brought slaves over to build it. We brought Irish immigrants over here to help continue the process and by default our ancestors got citizenship. Some of these people don't have any depth outside their own Livingroom.

    How do you know he us paying them less? I have worked in the past with legal and illegal immigrants. They were paid $10-15/hour for skilled manual labor. From my experience they were good , family people. The best thing they bring to America is their strong culture. I'm not saying we should give them a free pass, but the reality is they are here to work and we should find a way to accommodate that. I believe in a free market economy and I believe they fit a labor need we have so, I'm cool with them here. As far as uneducated labor goes, nobody does it better. JMO

    100% agree and as you said earlier...many companies pay them well for whatever skill set is required but you have some people that think business owners are evil no matter what. Ignorance is bliss.

    Also, I'm going to bring this thread up the next time an anti-immigration thread starts working its way around tBB and people are accusing those "lazy illegals" of not paying any taxes and mooching off the US.

    I just don't get the "smug" they shouldn't be here stuff. ( not you personally so please take no offense)

    This land was built by immigrants hands. Our ancestors are illegal immigrants. As a human being, not just an American, can you not see that? We are all inhabitants of a planet. Billions weren't lucky enough to be born here. These people didn't asked to be born. They just were. Why is another human not entitled to a wonderful life that other countries cant provide because they weren't born in the land of opportunity? These idiotic immigration laws need to be re-written to make sense. I'd rather live in a County full of immigrant workers than fat Americans with there hand out but the government. Won't change that so it's not a realistic possibility. What is a real possibility is rewriting laws that say I you work, pay taxes, you can stay and contribute to society. I just think saying, "Well you weren't born here so tough shit" is a little inhumane and sadistic, IMO.

    Please know that I'm not singling you out, just my thoughts in general on how we can become a better people overall.

    And again, the owner didn't break any laws. He's not dumb. he filed the required paperwork. Thats as far as his obligation carries. These so-called criminal immigrants did. By being here and working because of laws that make no sense.

    Get a clue. Really sucks for them but if they want to be here they should respect our laws! We have them for a reason. Its really not hard to get a work visa. Like at all.
