If this is true then I just don't get it. The only way this makes sense to me is if Long found more in the internal investigation that made it impossible for them to keep Petrino or if Petrino was so disliked in the athletic office that they were just looking for an excuse to get rid of him, otherwise WTF.

Something had to have taken precedent over winning (a first in the SEC) for this to have gone down. Otherwise, there's no way you get rid of a guy that has arky in national championship contention in the SEC West.

He is, but that's not a precedent for firing.

If Petrino is fired while Arkansas is staring at a potential national championship caliber team for 2012, Jeff Long is making one hell of a stand.

What is it going to look like if 2013 rolls around and Arkansas puts together 6 or 7 wins? I applaud the approach that Jeff Long is taking but wow, that is ballsy.

I can't help but think that Petrino has always been a bad guy that hasn't handled things the right way, hasn't treated the press, refs, subordinates with respect and now karma is coming back around.

I hate this for Arkansas fans but is anyone outside of Arkansas feeling bad for Bobby Petrino right now? I doubt it.

I think the reason for firing him is simply that he HIRED the chick he was having an affair with, with ARKANSAS money. He could easily survive an affair. Frankly nobody would much care. But he was using his position as head coach to get young poontang jobs. That crosses any line that winning creates.
