Philadelphia travel tips

Whats up fellas! I have to go to philly for a week next month for work training. Already got some tickets to see the flyers play the devils. First ever hockey game, so i am very pumped. Just wanted to get some other ideas of stuff to do when I am there. Things to see and places to eat. Gotta get me a legit cheesesteak. Heard Gino's is where its at when it comes to cheesesteaks. TIA

Jims Steaks on South St is better. Get yourself an Italian Roast Pork sandwich. I think those are the best sandwiches in the city. Johns Roast Pork on Snyder Ave is great, great cheesesteaks too. Or try Dinic's Pork at the Reading Terminal in Center City. I would visit Reading Terminal regardless, lots of cool food places. Try hitting up Chickie and Petes before the Flyers game. Good sports bar. Center City and Old City have some good nightlife, lots of bars. My friend is a partner in a new club called Rumor, one of the only real dance clubs in the city. Check it out if thats your scene

Your about 20 mins out of center city...more like 40 to an hour depending on traffic on 76. Eastcoast, couln't have said it better. Only other thing I would add is if your a history buff and would want to see the Liberty Bell and some other stuff like that. RTR!

Yeah i am worried about the traffic getting the game. Im sure my training will be done around 5 and the game is at 7. Definitely want to have time to catch a buzz before the game.

definitely interested in seeing some history stuff if i get a chance. The bad part is i am in training all day. Really only have nights to do stuff.

Usually at that time its worse getting out of the city then it is going in, at least for the sporting events. Plenty of places to grab a beer near the Wells Fargo Center. Chickie's and Pete's is about a mile away and Mcfadden's at the ball park is right across the street. Also, you can buy beer inside if you want to continue your buzz for about $7/a beer. Depending what lot your in they 'say' you can't tailgate but most of them will be fine by the time you get there.

For a drink more locally go to either the Villanova area or Wayne. Small little town with a few bars/restaurants up and down the main street. Also when downtown you have to grab a soft pretzel.

My grandparents live in KOP. Theres a big ass mall there but not much else. There are some little bars and restaurants down on the Main Line like the poster above mentioned by Villanova and Bryn Mawr.

Yeah, that is cool area. Lot of college kids and young professionals go over there. Would also be closer for the OP to get to. I guess it would considered NW Philly

+1 for Manayunk. Spent many a nights there while my wife was in grad school. Check out the Brewery and Kildares (if you are under 30 for Kildares). Great times.
As for the Flyers game... they can get pretty crazy. Chickie and Petes is a great place to pick up a pre-game bite to eat. I hope you have a good time!
Oh yeah... go to Jims for cheesesteaks. Pats and Genos are tourist traps. Not that they are bad, but Jim's blows them away.

If that is the case then go straight to Chickie and Pete's right after work. Getting back into the city from KOP can be a bitch at rush hour. Trust me, DO NOT F AROUND... GO RIGHT AFTER WORK.
